Okay, so, I’ve been hearing a lot about this kid, Ty Price, lately. He’s a basketball player, a point guard, apparently pretty good. So, I thought, “Why not? Let’s see what the hype is all about.” I went down to Butler County High School to check out one of his practices.
First off, the kid is not big. He’s listed at 6’0″, 160 pounds, which might be generous. But man, can he play! I watched him run the floor, handle the ball, and shoot. He is a sophomore, and he was very impressive.
Here’s what stood out to me:
- He’s crafty. He’s not going to overpower anyone, but he knows how to use his body to create space and get his shot off. He’s got a great feel for the game.
- He can shoot the lights out. This is what everyone talks about, and it’s true. He’s got range well beyond the three-point line. I saw him knock down several deep threes during practice, and they weren’t even forced shots. He just has a natural stroke.
- He’s a leader. Even though he’s young, he commands the floor. He’s vocal, directing his teammates, and setting the tempo. You can tell he’s the heart of the team.
After watching him, I understand why he’s getting attention. He’s sixth in the state in scoring, and the media voted him as the 3rd Region Boys Basketball Player of the Year. That’s a big deal for a sophomore.
My Takeaway
Ty Price is the real deal. He might be a smaller guard, but he makes up for it with his skill, smarts, and shooting ability. I heard he’s going to play for the University of Tennessee at Martin, starting in the 2025-26 season. I’m definitely going to be following his career. I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him. This kid is one to watch, for sure. I am glad that I found out about him and took the time to go see him play. Oh, and I got to talking with the coach about basketball prices. I always thought it was way more, but he told me you can get a good quality, regulation-sized ball for around 30 to 100 bucks, which is way better than I thought it would be.
