Alright, let’s talk about this basketball stuff, you know, the NBA and the WNBA. They play on a court, yeah, a basketball court. It’s the same kinda thing, but not exactly the same, ya hear?
Now, both them fellas and them gals, they run up and down this court. It’s a long ol’ thing, like, real long. They tell me it’s 94 feet long. That’s a lot of feet, I reckon. Can’t even imagine walkin’ that far, let alone runnin’ and jumpin’ like them youngsters do.
- So, the court, it’s the same length, for the men and the women. Same width too, I guess. But, and this is where it gets tricky, they got this line, a circle kinda thing, way out yonder. They call it the three-point line.
- Now, in the NBA, the mens’ league, that line is further out. They gotta throw that ball a good long ways to get three points. Them fellas are strong, I tell ya, throwin’ that ball like it ain’t nothin’. I heard it’s like, 23.75 feet at the top and 22 feet in the corners. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it?
- But in the WNBA, them gals got it a bit easier, the line is closer. Makes sense, I guess. They ain’t as big and strong as the fellas, gotta be fair, right? Their line is like, 22.15 feet at the top and 21.65 feet in the corners. Still far, but not as far. So, a WNBA court ain’t exactly the same as an NBA court, see? The court difference is mainly that three-point line.
This three-point line, that’s a big deal in basketball nowadays. Everybody’s always shootin’ them threes. Seems like they don’t even wanna go near the basket anymore, just chuck it from way out. Back in my day, they played it rough, under the basket, bangin’ and clanging’. Now, it’s all fancy-pants shootin’. But hey, that’s how they play now, I ain’t complainin’. Different strokes for different folks, that’s what I always say.
Now, they tell me them NBA fellas score a whole lot more points than the WNBA gals. Something about faster pace, more shootin’, and better aim, I guess. Them NBA fellas be runnin’ and gunnin’, scorin’ like a hundred and somethin’ points a game. That’s a lot of points, lemme tell ya. Them WNBA gals, they score too, just not as much. Maybe eighty somethin’ points. But they still play hard, and that’s all that matters. It’s still good basketball, man or woman.
And somethin’ else, them gals, more and more folks are watchin’ ’em play. They say attendance is way up. Guess people are finally figurin’ out that them gals can play some ball. That’s good, real good. Everybody deserves a chance, man or woman, makes no difference to me. It’s about the game and the heart you put in it. And let me tell you, them gals got plenty of heart.
So, yeah, NBA vs WNBA, they got their differences. The court ain’t exactly the same, the score ain’t the same, and the players ain’t the same. But it’s all basketball, and that’s what counts. They both got that basketball court dimension of 94 feet long, just that three-point line is a bit different. Folks gettin’ all riled up about who’s better and all that. Me? I just like watchin’ ’em play. It’s entertainin’, and that’s all I ask for. Keeps me from fallin’ asleep in my rocking chair, ya know. Passes the time, and that’s a good thing when you’re old like me.
So next time you’re watchin’ them fellas or them gals runnin’ up and down that court, remember what I told ya. It ain’t exactly the same, but it’s still the same game, the same court, mostly. Just enjoy it, that’s what I say. Life’s too short to worry about all the little details, just have some fun and watch some good ol’ basketball. And whether it’s the WNBA game or the NBA game, they both tryin’ their best, and that’s good enough for me.
Remember now, the main thing is the three point line is different. That’s the big thing to remember about the NBA and WNBA court. Different lines, same game, same excitement.
