Alright, let’s talk about them Italian fellas playin’ hockey in the NHL, you know, the big league. NHL, that’s where the real good players go. Heard tell there ain’t too many of ’em, but the ones that made it, well, they must be somethin’ special.
Now, I ain’t no expert, mind you. I just watch the games sometimes when the chores are done. But I seen a few names, heard the announcers shoutin’. They say there’s been like, 19 Italians playin’ in the NHL, ever. That ain’t a whole lot, is it? Think about all them fellas from Canada and America, swarmin’ the ice like bees on a honey pot.
One fella, they talked about him a lot, Debenedet, somethin’ like that. Said he was the first Italian-born to play in the NHL. Started with the Detroit Red Wings, then went to the Penguins. First one, that’s a big deal, I reckon. Like the first one to plant corn in a new field, you know?
Then there’s this other guy, Zuccarello. He’s still playin’, I think. They said he got his 500th point, whatever that means. Sounds like a lot, though. Must be good at shootin’ that puck. And he just signed a new contract, big money, I bet. Enough to buy a whole lotta pasta, that’s for sure!
- They say playin’ in the NHL is hard.
- Lots of competition.
- Gotta be tough, gotta be fast.
I read somewhere, they got this Italian Hockey League over in Italy, Serie A they call it. That’s where these fellas learn to skate and shoot, I guess. But the NHL, that’s a whole ‘nother level. Like goin’ from a small creek to a big ol’ river.
They got another one, Manno, a defenseman. Defensemen, they’re the ones that keep the other team from scorin’. Important job, that is. Like keepin’ the chickens safe from the foxes. This Manno fella, he got a bunch of points too. Guess even defensemen can score sometimes.
And there’s this Brugnoli guy, played in the Olympics, twice even. Olympics, that’s a big deal too. Whole world watchin’ you play. He must be pretty darn good. Like winnin’ the blue ribbon at the county fair.
It ain’t easy makin’ it to the NHL, no matter where you come from. But for these Italian fellas, it’s probably even harder. Not a lot of ’em playin’ hockey, compared to other countries. So the ones that do make it, they gotta be somethin’ special. Real determined, real skilled.
I heard tell there’s lists of these players, you know, pictures and all. And they keep track of how many goals and assists they get. Goals are when you put the puck in the net, and assists are when you help someone else do it. Like helpin’ your neighbor harvest his crops.
They even got records, for the most points and goals and such. Shows you who the real stars are, I guess. It’s all a bit complicated, all them numbers and stats. But one thing’s for sure, these Italian hockey players, they’re makin’ their mark in the NHL. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, ain’t it?
So next time you’re watchin’ a hockey game, keep an eye out for them Italian names. They might be few and far between, but they’re out there, givin’ it their all. And that’s what matters, right? Workin’ hard, doin’ your best, no matter what you do.
And heck, maybe one day, there’ll be even more Italian fellas playin’ in the NHL. Who knows? Anything’s possible, if you put your mind to it.
