Alright, let’s talk about this Bull Run Golf Club scorecard thing. You know, for us regular folks who just wanna whack a ball and have some fun.
First off, what’s a scorecard anyway? Well, it’s that little piece of paper, or sometimes on your phone now, where you write down how many times you hit the ball to get it in the hole. Yeah, that’s it. Simple as that. Don’t need no fancy degree to figure that out.
Now, this Bull Run place, I heard it’s a pretty big golf course. Lots of holes, they say. And each hole has a number, you know, like hole number 1, hole number 2, all the way up to… well, I don’t rightly know how many holes they got, but it’s a bunch. And each hole, they tell you how far you gotta hit the ball, that’s called yardage. They got different spots to start from too, for the fellas who hit it far and the fellas, well, like me, who don’t hit it so far.
- They got somethin’ called “par.” That’s like the number of hits they think you should take on a hole. But let me tell ya, most of us ain’t gettin’ no par!
- Then there’s this “handicap” thing. Don’t rightly know what that is, but it sounds like somethin’ to make it fair for everyone, even us old ladies.
So, on this scorecard, you got all that stuff. The hole number, how far to hit, the par, and maybe even that handicap thing. And then, next to it, you write down your score. You know, how many times you hit the ball. And then you add it all up at the end. That’s your total score.
Now, some folks get all serious about this scorecard. They got fancy apps on their phones, GPS and all that. They track every little thing – how far they hit, how many putts they take. Good for them, I say. But me? I just write down the number of hits. If I hit it in the water, I add a hit. If I hit it in the woods, I add a hit. You get the picture.
And you know what else is on that scorecard sometimes? Contact information. Yeah, the phone number for the golf course. In case you wanna complain about how hard the course is, or maybe to book another time to play. Or maybe you lost your fancy golf club and gotta call and see if someone found it. Happens to the best of us, believe you me.
Some scorecards, I hear, even got little pictures of the holes. So you can see where you gotta hit the ball. Not that it helps me much. I still end up in the weeds half the time. But it’s nice to look at, I guess.
And let’s be honest, most of us ain’t gonna be breakin’ no records out there. We’re just trying to have a good time, get some fresh air, and maybe hit a good shot once in a while. So that scorecard, it’s just a way to keep track of how we did. And maybe to brag a little bit to our friends, if we had a good day.
So, if you’re going to Bull Run Golf Club, or any golf course for that matter, don’t be intimidated by that scorecard. It’s just a piece of paper, or your phone screen. Just write down your numbers, add ‘em up, and have fun. That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Just having a good time. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll beat your buddy and get to brag a little bit. That’s always nice.
And don’t forget, after the game, you can always grab a bite to eat at the clubhouse. That’s the best part, if you ask me. A good burger and a cold drink after a long day of whacking that little white ball. Now, that’s what I call a good time.
