Okay, here is my sharing about the Can-Am soccer tournament in Myrtle Beach.
Man, what a wild ride that Can-Am soccer tournament in Myrtle Beach was! I signed up the team a while back, thinking it would just be a fun little getaway. Boy, was I in for a surprise!
First off, I checked the registration details. Seemed like everyone and their mother was trying to get in. It said on the website, “We expect to fill all divisions in 2023. Register Early to insure your team registration.” I’m glad I didn’t drag my feet on that one. I made sure to register the team as early as possible. Then, I booked a nice place for us to crash, nothing too fancy but close enough to the fields.
We rolled into Myrtle Beach on Friday, and the place was already buzzing. I spotted at least 200 teams, all hyped up and ready to go. I think most of them come from North and South Carolina. We checked into our spot, and I gave the team a little pep talk. You know, the usual “play hard, have fun, don’t get too crazy tonight” spiel.
Game Day!
- We kicked things off early Saturday morning. The fields at the Market Common, where the Great Carolina Shootout was happening, were pretty sweet.
- I made sure to familiarize myself with the tournament rules ahead of time. You know, gotta keep things legit.
- First game, we faced off against a team from who-knows-where. They were good, I’ll give ’em that. We battled it out, but they ended up edging us out.
- Next game, we bounced back. We were clicking, passing like pros, and nailed a couple of sweet goals. The team was fired up!
- Throughout the day, I was running around like a madman, making sure everyone was hydrated, fed, and not getting too sunburned.
By the end of Saturday, we were beat, but in a good way. We headed back to our place, ordered some pizzas, and just chilled out. Sunday was more of the same. More games, more running, more cheering. We didn’t win the whole thing, but we definitely held our own.
Overall, it was a blast. I learned that organizing a team for one of these things is no joke. You gotta be on top of everything, from the registration to the snacks to the pep talks. But seeing the team come together, play their hearts out, and have a good time made it all worth it. And hey, we even got to enjoy some Myrtle Beach sunshine. Can’t beat that!
If you’re thinking about doing one of these tournaments, I say go for it! Just be prepared to put in some work, and make sure you’ve got a good group of people around you. And most importantly, remember to have fun!
