Okay, so, I gotta talk about this Kent Johnson injury thing. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.
It all started when I was checking out the latest news on the Columbus Blue Jackets. They’ve been having a rough go of it lately, and it seems like injuries are just part of the deal now. I saw this headline about Kent Johnson being out indefinitely, and my first thought was, “Oh man, not again!” I started digging into it immediately to see how bad it really was.
So I read a few articles. At first, they said it happened during a game against the NY Rangers. Apparently, it was some kind of dirty play near the end of the game. I started to check out what that play was, and whether there were videos available of it. It said Johnson would need surgery, which is never good news. I mean, the dude is talented, and it’s always a bummer to see a skilled player go down like that.
Then, things started to get a little weird. I found another report, from some guy named Aaron Portzline, and he said that Johnson actually wouldn’t need surgery on his left shoulder. Wait, what? One minute he’s getting surgery, the next he’s not? I didn’t know what to think. I kept looking for more details, trying to piece it all together.
- First, it was surgery.
- Then, it wasn’t.
- Then who knows.
The team put out some official statements, too. They said he had an upper-body injury from a game against Buffalo back in October and that he’d miss like 14 games or something. They activated him off the injured reserve, which sounded like good news. I was relieved, honestly. This whole injury saga was giving me whiplash.
Then I found something saying Johnson actually didn’t need surgery. What a relief! One minute I’m bummed out for the guy, the next I’m celebrating the fact that he’s not going under the knife. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. The highest rated players of the team were Zach Werenski, Damon Severson. They had to make up for the absence of Johnson, and they performed outstandingly during the 14 games.
Anyway, I learned something today. Don’t always believe the first thing you read, especially when it comes to sports injuries. It all ended up okay, but man, it was a confusing few days there.
