Okay, so, get this – I’ve been messing around with this whole “Bluegrass Rivals Football” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride.
Started off just poking around online, you know, seeing what the fuss was about. Found this forum, Bluegrassrivals, that’s all about Kentucky high school and middle school sports. It’s got everything – news, scores, people arguing about rankings, the whole nine yards. That was my in. I dove into the forums, reading through posts, getting a feel for the rivalries, the big games, all that stuff.
- First thing I noticed? This Beechwood Tigers vs. Lexington Christian Eagles game.
- Apparently, it was a huge deal, a state semifinal right after Thanksgiving.
- I dug deeper, found out these teams have some serious history.
Then I got sidetracked
I stumbled upon this whole Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) and Western Kentucky University (WKU) rivalry. Turns out, WKU’s been dominating lately. They won in ’07, ’08, and ’17. EKU hasn’t taken the W since ’06! I spent a good chunk of time reading about that, but it wasn’t quite what I was looking for, so I moved on.
The Big Leagues
Then, bam! College Football Playoffs. I read something about a semifinal game, Penn State playing at Hard Rock Stadium. It sounded exciting, but I was more interested in the local stuff, the high school rivalries. This is just big, this is CFP, this is a runner-up and No.6 seed team.
This show, “Big Game Bound”
Found this show, “Big Game Bound.” The host, Chris Hagan, and some guy called “Son of Sweetness” were talking about a Chargers-Texans game. Not really my thing, but hey, it’s football, right? I watched a bit, but it didn’t really grab me. These games are in March, and it is already March, maybe I should pay more attention to them.
Back to the beginning
So, after all that, I ended up back where I started – thinking about those Kentucky high school rivalries. I realized that’s where the real passion is, the heart of it all. These kids are playing their guts out, and the fans are right there with them. That’s the kind of football I want to follow.
Honestly, this whole thing has been a bit of a mess. I jumped around from topic to topic, got lost in the weeds a few times. But, you know what? I learned a lot. And I think I’ve finally figured out what I’m looking for. It’s those local rivalries, those small-town games that really make football special. This is my plan to follow Bluegrassrivals football from now on.
Who needs the pros when you’ve got this kind of action right in your backyard? For the Boilermaker football fans or the ones who have gold and black flags flying on their porches, they may know what I am talking about.
