So, I was looking into this hockey player, John McNelis. Seems like a pretty promising guy, especially since he’s been making waves in the hockey scene. I started digging around to see what he’s been up to.
First off, I watched some of his games. Man, this guy can skate! He’s got some serious speed. I noticed he scored the winning goal in one game against the NTDP U18s. It was a breakaway, and he just flew past everyone. Sioux Falls ended up winning that game 6-3, and it was pretty cool to see McNelis playing a big part in that.
Then I checked out another game where he scored the tying goal. Not only that, but he also came through in the shootout to secure a couple of extra points for his team. It’s like, whenever his team needs a crucial goal, he’s there to deliver. That’s what I liked the most.
I also found out he’s the leading goal scorer for his team, the Sioux Falls Stampede. That’s a big deal! It means he’s consistently performing at a high level. There was this one game against the Tri-City Storm where he and another player, Hunter Anderson, each scored. They won that game 2-1, so again, McNelis was key to their victory.
It turns out, McNelis has been moving around a bit, playing for different teams. He spent a season with the Long Island Gulls, then Little Caesars, and before that, a couple of seasons with the New Jersey Colonials. It’s like he’s been gaining experience and getting better with each team he’s played for.

- Team Contributions: Seeing how he consistently contributes to his team’s wins made me think he’s a valuable player.
Recently, he got named to the 2023-2024 All-USHL Rookie Second Team. That’s a huge honor and shows that other people are recognizing his talent too. I also stumbled upon something called the “Atherton Method” and it looks like McNelis has some content there. I didn’t dive too deep into that, but it seems like he’s involved in some sort of player development program.
From what I’ve gathered, McNelis is a playmaking forward who gets a lot of power-play time. That kind of role is important because it means he’s trusted in high-pressure situations. It seems like he could definitely have a shot at making it to the NHL someday if he keeps up this kind of performance.
