Okay, so I’ve been messing around with these 2023 Prizm football cards lately, and man, it’s been a wild ride. I started by grabbing a bunch of packs, not really knowing what I was getting into. I just ripped them open like a kid on Christmas morning.
First off, I tried to sort through the cards. There are like 400 cards in the set, so it’s a lot to go through. I quickly realized that some cards are way more common than others. I found some interesting parallels, like the Black and Red Checker Prizms. Those looked pretty neat.
Then I started to look up players. I saw some big names like Damar Hamlin, CJ Stroud, Tank Dell, Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, AJ Brown, Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, and Stefon Diggs. I was pretty stoked to pull a few of those guys, not gonna lie.
After that, I started to dig into which cards are actually worth something. I found out that for retail, Prizm and Optic are the way to go. I heard Select and Mosaic are okay, but not as good. I also learned that Contenders is a fun rip, but the only valuable cards from there are the Prizm Blacks. And from what I gathered, Absolute is mostly trash, except for the Kaboom cards, which are apparently pretty awesome if you can pull one. Regular Donruss seems to be similar, with only the Downtown cards being worthwhile.
I also checked out some price guides online to see what the most expensive cards were. It turns out that some of these cards can go for a lot of money, especially the graded ones. I was shocked to see that some of the Jerry Rice rookie cards from 1986 are selling for like $82,100! Crazy, right?
Here’s what I really focused on:
- Ripping open a bunch of packs.
- Sorting through the cards and finding the parallels.
- Looking up players and seeing which ones I pulled.
- Digging into which cards are valuable.
- Checking out price guides online.
My final thoughts on this whole thing
It’s been a fun and eye-opening experience. It’s like a treasure hunt, and you never know what you’re gonna get. I’m still learning a lot, but it’s been a blast so far. But honestly, it feels like gambling sometimes, so I gotta be careful not to get too carried away. It’s a fun hobby, but I wouldn’t sink my life savings into it. It is fun though!
