Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to get into collecting basketball cards for a while, and I finally decided to take the plunge. I’ve always been a huge Paul George fan, ever since his days with the Pacers. So, naturally, I figured a Paul George card would be a good place to start. I really wanted to try and get some rookie cards of him, because I know those are like the most valuable in the long run.
First things first, I needed to figure out what was even out there. I started doing a bunch of searches online, you know, just typing in things like “Paul George rookie cards” and “valuable Paul George cards”.
I realized that there are a ton of different cards of this guy. I think I read there’s like, over 7,000 different ones in some database. Insane, right? But it looks like only around 139 are considered his actual “rookie” cards, those are from his first year in the NBA.
From what I could gather, the Panini brand seemed to be pretty popular for basketball cards, especially the “Prizm” and “Donruss Optic” ones. I also came across something called “numbered cards,” which are apparently limited edition. It’s like, they’ll say something like “10/100” on the card, meaning it’s only the 10th card out of 100 made. Those are probably worth a good chunk of change, I would think.
Next, I needed to find out where to actually buy these things. The websites I saw mentioned were all over the place. Some are pretty straight forward, some are apps. I decided to start with the app, cause I saw an app called CollX and decided to try it. I downloaded it and started browsing.
The app let me take pictures of cards and it would tell me the price. Pretty cool. It also let me keep track of the ones I had and their value.
I ended up taking a picture of this Panini card I found at a local shop, and it gave me a price estimate and everything. I ended up buying it and adding it to my virtual collection on the app. It’s not much, but it’s a start!
Overall, this whole card collecting thing is way more involved than I thought it would be. But it’s also kinda fun, like a treasure hunt or something. I’m still learning a lot, but I’m excited to keep going and see what other Paul George cards I can find.
- Step 1: Did some online searches to see what Paul George cards were out there.
- Step 2: Found out there are a ton of cards, but only a few are considered rookie cards.
- Step 3: Learned about popular brands like Panini Prizm and Donruss Optic.
- Step 4: Discovered numbered cards, which are limited edition.
- Step 5: Looked for places to buy the cards.
- Step 6: Downloaded an app called CollX to help with pricing and tracking my collection.
- Step 7: Bought my first Paul George card and added it to my collection!
It’s definitely a learning process, but it’s been pretty interesting so far. I’m going to keep at it and hopefully build up a decent collection over time. I may try to find some of those numbered cards, they seem like they could be a good investment.
