Okay, so, I was messing around online, right? Trying to solve this crossword puzzle, and I got totally stuck on this one clue: “start of a football drive”. My brain was fried. I couldn’t think of anything.
So, I started searching around, trying to find something, anything, that could help. I typed the clue into Google, and boom! Tons of results popped up. Mostly websites dedicated to solving crosswords, which was cool, but also kind of overwhelming.
I clicked on a few of these links. Some of them had the answer right away, while others made me jump through a few hoops. I read through a bunch of explanations about football terms, you know, trying to figure out what “drive” meant in this context. It’s like, the beginning of a team’s attempt to move the ball down the field, apparently.
- One site mentioned “kickoff,” which is how they start a football game, but that didn’t seem to fit the clue.
- Another site suggested that the asterisks in the clue were a hint, like they represented “star” or something, but that didn’t make sense to me either.
I kept digging, scrolling through pages and pages of search results. I even stumbled upon some definitions of the word “start,” like “begin” and “commence,” but none of those were the answer I needed. Some also give the definition of “restrain” like “bridle” but it is not related.
Finally found the answer
Then, finally, I hit the jackpot. I found a site that had the answer, clear as day: “FIRSTANDTEN.” It all clicked into place. “First and ten” is the down and distance a team faces at the start of a drive. I felt so relieved! I mean, who knew solving a crossword clue could be such a rollercoaster?
Anyway, I learned a lot about football terms today, even though I’m not a huge sports fan. And I learned that the internet can be a real lifesaver when you’re stuck on a puzzle. It was a wild ride, but I got there in the end!
