Okay, so, I recently got into collecting basketball cards, specifically the 2009 Topps series. Let me tell you, it’s been quite the ride. Here’s my story on how I got my collection started.
I started by doing a bit of research online about the best basketball cards to collect. It was all pretty new to me. I mean, I love basketball, but I never really got into the whole card-collecting scene. It looks like some folks online pointed out that Panini Prizm cards are a big deal. But, I found out Topps hasn’t made NBA cards since 2010! That’s a bummer. Still, I decided to go for the 2009 Topps set because it seemed like a good place to start. I figured it is still worth it because of those famous players like Steph Curry, Lebron James, and Michael Jordan, and their cards are still valuable today.
Next, I needed to figure out where to buy these cards. I checked out some local hobby stores and some online shops. The prices varied a lot. But, I learned that the 1996 draft class, with players like Kobe Bryant, is a big deal. Too bad he’s not with us anymore. I will keep that in my mind for the future collection. I just wanted to get my hands on some cards. I ended up finding a few good deals online, and I also managed to snag some packs from a local store.
My Collection So Far
- I got a few boxes. I mean, who doesn’t love opening a fresh box of cards? Some boxes have just one pack, others have over 30! It’s like a treasure hunt.
- I even unsubscribed from some newsletters to focus on getting these Topps cards. It is a big commitment, but I feel great about it.
- I pulled some decent rookie cards. Nothing too crazy yet, but it’s a start. I heard that the 2009 Topps set has some desirable rookie cards, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
I started tracking the prices using the PSA Price Guide. It’s a handy tool to see what my cards are worth. I’m not really in it for the money, but it’s nice to know. After I got familiar with these cards, I might start to collect other series.
Overall, it’s been a fun experience. I love the thrill of opening packs and finding new cards. It is a bit sad that I did not get any Kobe cards this time, but there is always next time. Plus, I get to learn more about the players and the history of the game. I’m excited to see where this new hobby takes me. Maybe I will be a pro in this in the future!
