Today, I wanted to talk about something I’ve been messing around with lately: good white basketball players. It’s a topic that’s been on my mind, and I’ve been doing some digging and playing around to see what’s up.
So, first off, I started by just hitting up the internet, you know, the usual Google searches and all that. I was curious who are the big names, the ones everyone’s talking about. I found some obvious ones like Larry Bird, who everyone says is the best white NBA player ever, and some recent guys like Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic. It’s crazy how much talent is out there.
Then I started looking into some current players. I was reading about this guy, Derrick White, who plays for the Boston Celtics. He seemed pretty good, so I watched some of his games, and man, he’s got skills! It was cool to see him in action. I also came across Bogdan Bogdanovic, a Serbian player who was drafted back in 2014, but is also still quite active now. He’s got some serious game, too.
After that, I got curious about the numbers. Like, what’s the actual breakdown of white players in the NBA? I found this report by Richard Lapchick, a racial equality activist, and it said that in 2023, the NBA was about 17.5% white players. That’s interesting, right? It’s not a huge number, but there are definitely some standout players in there.
I also started thinking about some of the older players, like Jerry West and John Stockton. These guys were legends back in the day, and it’s cool to see how the game has evolved since then. They were good, but today the game is completely changed.
But it wasn’t just about watching games and reading stats. I wanted to see for myself, so I started shooting some hoops at the local court. I tried to mimic some of the moves I saw these guys doing, and let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks! These players are seriously skilled. I practiced some dribbling, some shooting, and even tried a few passes like those fancy ones Doncic does. It was fun, but also a lot harder than I thought.

It’s been a fun little project, learning about these players and trying out some of their moves. Basketball is such an exciting sport, and it’s awesome to see the kind of talent that’s out there, no matter where they come from. This whole thing has really made me appreciate the game even more, I’ll keep practicing, who knows, maybe one day I’ll get good enough to actually play like them.
