Alright, so let me tell you about my experience getting involved with Affton Athletics. It’s been quite a journey, I gotta say.
It all started when I was looking for a way to get more active and maybe make some new friends in the area. I’m not getting any younger, you know? So, I stumbled upon Affton Athletics, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” Seemed like a decent local sports organization.
First thing I did was check out their programs. They’ve got baseball, softball, and probably some other stuff. I decided to focus on baseball since that’s what I played back in the day. I saw that they have this registration for the 2024 Summer League, and it opened way back in November 1st, 2023. I was late but I can still register, and learned that registration closes on February 1st, so I better hurry.
- Adult admission is 5 bucks.
- Students get in for 3 bucks.
- Only cash at the gate, though. No fancy cards or online stuff.
Then there’s the cost. It’s $2200 per team, and you gotta put down a $400 deposit when you sign up. No work duty, which is nice. But, all the fees, the whole shebang, need to be paid up by February 1st, 2025. I guess they don’t want any stragglers.
Now, here’s the kicker. I didn’t have a team. But guess what? You don’t need one to register at Affton! I was surprised, but apparently, you can sign up as an individual player, and they’ll put you on a team. I thought, “Well, that works for me!”
So, I went ahead and registered as an individual player for the 2025 Spring/Summer season. It was pretty straightforward. I just filled out some online forms, paid my part, and that was it. They even have a SELECT BASEBALL and SOFTBALL registration, so I think I can play both.
Oh, and they have this rain-out line, 314-994-1255. You call that number to check if the fields are playable. But they don’t make the call until 3:30 PM at the earliest during the week. So, no early morning decisions, I guess.
And, oh boy, I listened to episode 11 of their podcast, “#afftonstrong – Athletics Activities”. It was… something. Let’s just say I have a lot to learn about this whole Affton Athletics scene.
Anyway, that’s where I’m at now. Registered, paid up, and waiting for the season to start. I’ll keep you folks updated on how it goes. Maybe I’ll be the next Affton legend, who knows? Or maybe I’ll just pull a hamstring. We’ll see!
