Alright, so today I’m diving into something that’s been on my mind lately – trying to predict the outcome of Alabama basketball games. I know, I know, it’s not exactly rocket science, but it’s been a fun little project I’ve been messing around with.
First off, I started gathering all sorts of data. I mean, I was digging into everything I could find.
- Started by checking out the team’s overall performance. Looking at things like their shooting percentage, how many three-pointers they make, and how many points they score per game.
- Compared how they play at home versus away. You’d be surprised how much that can change things.
- Then I dug into their offensive and defensive ratings.
Then I started looking at how many points they score a game and how many points they let the other team score. It was a bit of a mess at first, trying to make sense of all these numbers. They have been so hot since 2009!
I also checked out some specific games, like this one time they were playing against Kent State Golden Flashes on December 22. I saw that some people were predicting that game, and I thought, “Hey, I can do that too!”
There was also this other game against McNeese State Cowboys at the Coleman Coliseum. Same deal, I saw some predictions, and it got me even more interested in figuring this stuff out.
Oh, and I stumbled upon some betting odds for a game against Rutgers. They had stuff like “+10” or “-110” next to the teams, and I had to figure out what all that meant.
And then there was this game against North Carolina where they said “defense was optional” which is some wild stuff. I even started looking at individual players, like this Grant Nelson guy.
I also saw something about a game against Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena. People were talking about “tip-off” times and something called “CBS” which must be a TV thing.
Lastly, I found another prediction for a game against North Dakota Fightin’ Hawks on December 18. So, yeah, I had a lot of information to sift through. I spent hours reading articles, watching highlights, and basically trying to soak up as much as I could about Alabama basketball.
After a while, I started seeing some patterns. Like, Alabama tends to do better when they are playing at home. And they score a lot of points, but they also let the other team score a lot too. It’s kind of like a shootout. And there were some players that I kept seeing come up, so I figured they must be pretty good.
Wrapping Up
Now, I’m not saying I’ve cracked the code or anything. It’s still pretty tough to predict these games accurately. But I think I’ve got a better handle on it now. It is not perfect, but I think it is in a good place now. It’s been a fun ride, and I’ve definitely learned a lot about basketball along the way.
