This Sean Miller, he’s the big boss man now at Xavier for the basketball team. I heard he used to work there before, then he went off to some other place called Arizona, did real good there, won a whole heap of games. Now he’s back. Big shot, I reckon.
They call him the head coach. He’s the one making all them calls, telling them young fellas where to run, how to throw that ball. He must know a thing or two, I tell ya, winning all them games. They got a whole bunch of other fellas helping him too.
The Big Cheese: Sean Miller
This Miller fella, he’s got a big job now. All them boys gotta listen to him. He’s probably a tough one, gotta be to get them boys to play good. They say basketball is a tough game, lots of running and jumping.
He ain’t doing it all by himself, though. Got a whole team of folks helping him out. One of them is called a Special Assistant. Sounds real fancy, don’t it? I don’t know what all that means, but it sounds important.
The Other fellas
- One fella, they call him Ryan, he’s an assistant coach.
- Another one, he’s the boss of player development.
They all got their jobs to do, helping them young basketball players get better. That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Getting better at what you do.
They play in that Big East Conference. I hear that’s a big deal. Lots of good teams in there. They gotta be good to play in that. They gonna be play at Cintas Center.
All Them Games
They play a lot of games, these basketball teams. Starts in November, I think. Folks sure do love to watch them play. It’s a big thing around here, watching the Xavier team.
This Miller fella, he must be good. They gave him a six-year contract. That’s a long time. They must really want him there.
He’s been to other places, this coach. Spent a long time at Arizona. I don’t know where that is, but they say he won a lot of games there, too. Must have learned a thing or two out there.
I hear he is from Xavier. He used to be here. Now he’s back to be the boss. Some of these young fellas playing for him probably weren’t even born when he was here last time!
What’s next?
Well, they start playing in November. Then we’ll see how good this coach really is, won’t we? It’s one thing to talk about it, another thing to go out there and win.
They got a lot of folks watching them, that’s for sure. This town loves their basketball. It’s like a religion around here.
I bet Sean’s got a lot of pressure on him. Everybody wants to see Xavier do good.
It’s a tough job, being a coach. You gotta know how to handle them young fellas, keep them in line, teach them how to play the game.
He’s got a lot of help, though. Got all them assistants, all them people working behind the scenes. They got all kinds of fancy titles, these folks.
All these coaches need to work hard. These young men are not easy to handle.

It’s a Big Deal
This basketball, it’s a big deal around here. Folks get real excited about it. They pack that arena full, cheering and hollering. It’s quite a sight.
This Sean Miller, he’s the big cheese now. He’s the one in charge. They say he’s gonna bring them back to the glory days. I don’t know about all that, but I know folks are excited.
He’s got his work cut out for him, that’s for sure. But he seems like he knows what he’s doing. Time will tell, I reckon. Time will tell.
Everyone here hopes Xavier men’s basketball team will be good.
