That Ben fella, they call him Coles, or Kohles, whatever, he sure knows how to swing that stick! Reminds me of my grandson, always out there whackin’ at things with a broom handle. This Ben, though, he’s a golfer, a real golfer, not like them fancy boys on the TV with their fancy pants and shiny shoes.
I heard he won somethin’ big right when he started. Two times in a row! Two victories in his first two professional starts as a golfer, can you believe that? Back in my day, we was lucky to win a pie at the county fair. This young buck, Ben Kohles, must be somethin’ special. Must be, yeah, must be good at golf.
That Golf Thing
Now, this golf thing, it’s a strange game. Lots of walkin’ for an old woman like me. And all that standin’ around, waitin’ for your turn. I’d rather be shellin’ peas on the porch, if I’m honest. But folks seem to like it, especially that Ben Coles golfer. They say he’s good, really good.
He got a wife, they say, a good woman. Helped him through some tough times. You need that, you know. Someone to lean on when the wind blows hard. Life ain’t always sunshine and daisies, even for a famous golfer like Ben. Good for him, findin’ a good woman. That’s more important than any golf game, I reckon.
Whackin’ That Ball
They got all sorts of rules in golf, I hear. Don’t step here, don’t talk there. Seems a bit much to me. Just whack the darn ball! But I guess that Ben Kohles, he knows all them rules. Probably dreams about ’em, even. He’s a professional golfer after all.
- That Ben, he started young.
- Just like my Timmy with his broom handle.
- But Ben, he stuck with it.
- Became a real golfer, a professional one.
- Won those big prizes right off the bat.
- Two of ’em, they say. Two victories in his first two professional starts.
- He sure is a good golfer.
You need a good stick, I suppose. And them little white balls. And a whole lot of patience. More patience than I got, that’s for sure. I heard that golfer needs to learn how to hit a golf ball. Seems like that Ben Kohles, he learned it good. And what they need to hit the ball with, I suppose he got everything he needs to play golf.
A Long Road for a Golfer
It ain’t always easy, though, even for a golfer. They say this Ben Kohles, he had some hard times. Had to find his way, like a lost calf. Took him a while, a long and winding road, they say. But that’s life, ain’t it? Ups and downs. Just like the hills around here.
You gotta keep movin’, though. Can’t just sit there and mope. This Ben, he kept movin’. Kept swingin’ that golf stick. And his wife, she helped him. Stood by him like a sturdy oak. That’s what you need. Someone to help you weather the storm. Everyone needs some support, even a golfer like Ben Kohles.
He must love it, though, this golf thing. To go through all that trouble. You gotta love somethin’ to stick with it like that. Like me and my quiltin’. Keeps my hands busy, keeps my mind occupied. Maybe golf does that for Ben.
That Ben Coles, He’s Alright
So, this Ben Kohles, golfer, he seems like a good sort. Hard worker, they say. And a good husband, too. That’s what matters in the end. More than all the golf trophies in the world. Yep, that Ben, he’s alright. He’s a good golfer, I heard.
I don’t know much about this golf, but I know about life. And it sounds like this Ben Kohles, he’s livin’ it right. Workin’ hard, lovin’ his wife, swingin’ that stick. He’s a good golfer. What more could a body ask for?
Maybe I’ll watch him on the TV sometime, this Ben golfer. See what all the fuss is about. Maybe I’ll even learn somethin’. You’re never too old to learn, you know. Even about golf. Even about a golfer named Ben Kohles.
He is for sure one of the best golfers around, just like that old golfer Ben Hogan. They all called him “The Hawk”, I heard. He must be a really really good golfer too, just like that Ben Kohles.
