You know, them penguins lines, they is somethin’ else. I seen ’em on the TV, all waddlin’ around in a row. Makes me think of how we used to line up for the well, waitin’ our turn for water. These penguins, they all look the same to me, but I guess they ain’t. Some is bigger, some is smaller. Just like folks, I reckon.
I heard tell they live down south, where it’s colder than a well-digger’s backside. They gotta huddle up close to keep warm, I suppose. Like them Pittsburgh Penguins, I hear they play that ice hockey. They all be skilled up and such, not like them boys who play on the pond, them’s just scrappin’ mostly. These here Pittsburgh ones got names like, what was it, Matt and Kris, real popular names, I reckon. They is the top ones, the best of the bunch, kinda like the prize bull at the county fair.
They got these other fellas too, the ones who ain’t as good but still pretty good. They mix ’em up all the time, I hear. One day they’s with one group, next day they’s with another. Reminds me of when we used to swap seeds with the neighbors, always tryin’ to get the best crop. This one fella, he’s called Evgeni, which is a strange name. He’s in the second group, like the second place in a pie eatin’ contest, ain’t as good as the first but it ain’t nothin to be ashamed of.
They got this coach fella, name of Mike. He’s the one who decides who plays with who. He’s like the boss, I guess. He watches ’em all close, tryin’ to figure out the best way to win. It’s like pickin’ the best chickens for the stew pot, gotta know which ones is gonna make it just right. He switches them penguins lines around a lot, like he’s shufflin’ a deck of cards, tryin’ to get the best hand.
- These penguins, they can’t fly, you know. Got flippers ‘stead of wings.
- They swim real good, though. Faster than a greased piglet at the fair, I bet.
- They all huddled up together, stayin’ warm. Like a bunch of old ladies at a quiltin’ bee.
They is birds, but they don’t act like no birds I ever seen. They don’t sing pretty songs, and they sure don’t fly. They just waddle around and swim. They is called, a “group” of them, which is like us folks, we is a family. They all live together, down there in the cold. They all is different, some big, some small. They got different names, but they all is penguins. Just like how we got different names, but we all is folks. This Mike fella, he’s got a tough job, I reckon. Tryin’ to keep all them penguins in line. He’s gotta figure out who plays best with who.
I seen them penguins lines change, one day they are one way, next day they are another way. They was playing them Montreal fellas and they was real good. They is all set for the big openin’ night, when the season starts. Like plantin’ time, everybody is gettin’ ready for the hard work. They been doin’ this since way back when, playin’ that hockey. They got some good ones, some not so good ones, but they all is part of the team.
These penguins, they is all part of a big family. They stick together, through thick and thin. Just like us folks, we gotta stick together too. These penguins lines, they is important, I guess. It’s how they win the game. It’s how they work together. They is all different, but they all is penguins. They all got their own job to do. They is from the South, way down there, which is the bottom of the map, I reckon.
They is good swimmers, they is fast. They is like them fish in the river, always movin’. They gotta be fast to catch their food, I guess. Them flippers help them swim, they don’t need no wings. They is different, that’s for sure. But they is interestin’ to watch. This coach fella, he’s gotta keep ’em all straight. He’s gotta know who plays best with who. It’s a lot of work, I reckon. But he gets it done.
Them penguins lines, they is somethin’ to see. I like watchin’ them play that ice hockey. They is fast and they is tough. They is like us folks, workin’ hard every day. They is a team, and they work together. That’s what’s important, I reckon. Workin’ together. Like them penguins, waddlin’ around in a line. They know where they is goin’, and they is gonna get there together.
