Well, let me tell you, I heard folks talking ’bout this three player trick taking game thing, seems to be a real head-scratcher, just like them crosswords in the New York Times, you know? I ain’t never been one for them fancy games, but I heard it’s a card game, and that’s somethin’ I understand a bit more. You know, like them card games we play down at the community center, Hearts and such.
Now, this three player trick taking game, they say it’s got somethin’ to do with “tricks.” Sounds kinda sneaky, don’t it? Like when my grandson tries to pull a fast one on me, hidin’ my knitting needles and pretendin’ he don’t know where they are. But I reckon it ain’t that kind of trick. They say you gotta play a card, and then the other two fellas, they play a card too. And one of ’em wins that “trick.” Highest card, maybe? Sounds a bit like that Ninety-Nine game, I heard about it before. Some fella named David made it up, I think he wanted a game for three people, that easy to learn, but a little tricky like.
I reckon that’s like a lot of things in life, ain’t it? Simple on the surface, but you gotta use your noggin if you wanna do well. Just like makin’ a good apple pie. Anybody can throw some apples and dough together, but it takes a bit of know-how to make it real tasty.
They got all sorts of these games, it seems. That three player trick taking game is just one of ’em. Some folks like that “Schnapsen” one, sounds German, don’t it? Must be popular over there. I heard it’s for two people only, so not the one we talking about here.
- There’s one called “Knaves.” Now that’s a name that makes me think of them no-good rascals that used to steal chickens from old Mrs. Henderson’s coop. They say it’s easy, though.
- Then there’s “Hearts,” that’s a classic.
- And “Spades,” I’ve heard of that one too.
- One called “Bottle Imp”. What a strange name.
- And there’s even one called “3 2 5.” Sounds like someone just couldn’t think of a proper name.
Seems like there’s a whole heap of these card games out there, more than you can shake a stick at. And this three player trick taking game from the New York Times, it’s probably just another one to add to the pile.
I reckon it doesn’t matter what game you’re playin’, though. It’s all about havin’ a good time with your friends and family. And maybe winnin’ a few hands, if you’re lucky, ha! That’s what old timers like me always say. Just like a good game of bingo down at the church hall. The company’s what matters, not so much the winnin’, though a little extra pocket change never hurt nobody.
But these young folks today, they’re always lookin’ for somethin’ new, somethin’ different. This three player trick taking game, I bet it’s got all sorts of fancy rules and strategies. They say you gotta learn how to use them “trump cards” just right if you wanna win. Sounds complicated to me. I’m more of a “keep it simple” kinda gal, myself.
But hey, if you’re into that sort of thing, more power to you. I reckon there’s somethin’ out there for everyone. Whether you’re a beginner just learnin’ the ropes or one of them fancy “advanced players” lookin’ to “refine your strategies,” as they say, I’m sure you can find a card game that tickles your fancy. If you are looking for a three player game, they have “The Crew” or “Skull King”, I don’t really get it, but seems fun to those young people.
Me? I think I’ll stick to my knitting. It’s a lot less complicated than this three player trick taking game, and it keeps my hands busy. But you young’uns have fun with your cards. Just remember what I always say: a friendly game is a good game, no matter who wins or loses. But winnin’ is always a little more fun, ain’t it? Ha!
Now where did I put my spectacles? I need to find them so I can finish this here scarf I’m makin’. It’s gettin’ cold out there, and my grandson, bless his heart, he needs somethin’ to keep him warm. These new games are fun, but some old things are still the best, I suppose. This three player trick taking game, I still don’t know how to play, maybe I will ask my grandson to teach me some day. I hope it won’t be too hard.
