That Geno guy, he sure knows how to throw a big party, huh? I hear it’s called the Geno Auriemma Golf Tournament. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But I tell ya, it ain’t just about folks whackin’ a little white ball around. It’s for the kids, you see. That’s what they say, “Geno’s for the Kids.”
Now, I ain’t no golf expert. Never been on one of them fancy courses myself. But I hear tell it’s a big deal. Lots of folks come out, all dressed up, to watch them golfers. I guess it is kind of like watching the cows go by. It is peaceful like, you know? And that Geno, he’s a big coach. Basketball, I think it is. I don’t rightly know much about basketball, but I know big. He must be good if he’s got all these people comin’ to his golf thing.
They say this whole Geno Auriemma Golf Tournament thing happens every year. I reckon it’s like plantin’ season. You do it every year, ’round the same time. I heard it is in June. June 20th, they were sayin’. That’s a good time, I reckon. The weather’s usually nice. Not too hot, not too cold. Just right for whackin’ that little ball around.
They get money from this whole shebang. Lots of it, I hear. Folks pay to play, folks pay to watch. And them big companies, they put their names on things. Like when Farmer Johnson puts his name on his prize-winnin’ pig. Everyone knows it’s his pig then. Same idea, I guess. Then there’s the TV. They show it on the TV, and that brings in even more money. More than my old hens lay eggs in a month. That’s a lot of money.
They say this whole golf tournament is for charity. That means they’re doin’ it to help folks. I heard them say it is “Fore the Kids”. Now that is good. Kids need help sometimes. Just like a little calf needs its mama. They ain’t got nothin’ less they got someone lookin’ out for ’em. So, this Geno fella, he’s doin’ a good thing, helpin’ out the young’uns. It makes me happy to hear that.
Now, if you’re gonna have one of these golf tournament things, you gotta have a place to do it. A big field, I reckon. They call ’em golf courses. I heard they have a person in charge. You gotta talk to that person. It is like talkin’ to the fella who runs the feed store. You tell him what you need, and he helps you out. This golf course person, they tell you about the dates and how much it costs. They tell you about the food and the little carts they drive around in. Like souped-up wheelbarrows, they are. I see them on the TV. And they help you with the prizes.
Here is what I heard about how they do it:
- First, you gotta find a golf course. Like findin’ a good field to plant your corn.
- Then, you gotta talk to the person who runs the place. The boss, like.
- They’ll tell you when you can have your shindig.
- And they’ll tell you how much it’s gonna cost ya. Gotta pay to play, you know.
- They’ll help you with the food, too. Gotta feed folks if you want ’em to come.
And them prizes, well, you gotta have somethin’ for folks to win. Makes it more fun, I guess. Like winnin’ a blue ribbon at the county fair. Makes you feel good. It must be excitin’ to win one of them prizes. I imagine they’re pretty fancy. Probably shinier than my best Sunday shoes.
So, this Geno Auriemma Golf Tournament, it’s a big deal. It’s for the kids, and that’s what matters. They raise a lot of money, and they help a lot of folks. That Geno, he’s a good egg, even if he is a basketball coach. It is good to help other people when you can. And everyone seems to have a good time. That’s what’s important, ain’t it? Havin’ a good time and helpin’ folks out. That’s what life’s all about, I reckon. Even if you ain’t never swung a golf club in your life, like me. It is still a good thing.
I heard it is the 19th time they do this. 19th! That is older than my youngest grandbaby. It must be a good thing if they keep doin’ it every year. They say this Geno fella is a real good coach. I guess he knows how to do things right. Good for him. And good for the kids. They are the important ones in this whole thing. Remember that.
