Well, let me tell ya ’bout this St. Vincent-St. Mary football, the 2023 kinda stuff. You know, the Fighting Irish, that’s what they call ’em. Heard they got themselves a new coach, Doran Grant, one of their own boys, used to play for them Ohio State Buckeyes, even was a captain, they say. Folks ’round here, they like that, one of their own comin’ back to lead the team. That’s somethin’, ain’t it?
Now, last year, 2022, they did alright, won eight games, lost four. That ain’t too shabby, but folks ’round here, they always want more. They got this quarterback, Markelle Carter, throws the ball pretty good, I hear. And them runnin’ backs, D’Anthony Kelker and Santino Harper, they carried the ball a whole bunch last year, made a real difference. But things change, ya know? This year, who knows? Gotta see how these young fellas step up.
This year’s schedule, well, I saw it posted down at the store, on that there bulletin board. Looks like they playin’ all sorts of teams, some local, some not so local. Heard they’re gonna play Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings, that’s a big game, folks get all riled up for that one. And they got this game against somebody called Hoban, that’s another big one, always tough competition, them Hoban fellas. Always wanna beat them, just like them Benedictine boys, always a fight.
- They gotta play hard, gotta be tough. Football ain’t for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.
- Gotta block, gotta tackle, gotta run fast, gotta catch the ball. Sounds simple enough, but it ain’t, let me tell ya.
- And gotta listen to that coach, Doran, he knows a thing or two ’bout football, I reckon.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I know a winner when I see one. And these Fighting Irish, they got the spirit, they got the talent, they just gotta put it all together. Gotta work as a team, gotta support each other, gotta believe in themselves. That’s the key, ya know? Believin’ you can win, that’s half the battle.
I heard some folks sayin’ they might not be as good this year, lost some good players. But that’s just talk, ya know? Every year’s different. New fellas gotta step up, gotta prove themselves. And that’s what makes it exciting, seein’ who’s gonna shine, who’s gonna be the next star.
This St. Vincent-St. Mary High School football team, they got a lot of history, been around a long time. Folks ’round here, they take their football seriously, it’s a big deal. Friday nights, under them lights, that’s where the magic happens. And this year, I’m hopin’ to see some good magic, some good football. I’m hopin’ they win more games than they lose. That’s always the goal, ain’t it? Win more than ya lose. And maybe, just maybe, they can go all the way, make us proud. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it? Them Fighting Irish, winnin’ it all. We’d all be cheerin’ for ’em, that’s for sure.
They finished 5-5 in the regular season last year I heard someone sayin’ at the market the other day, but I don’t really remember things so good anymore. Seems like they won more than that, but maybe that’s just wishful thinkin’ on my part. Anyway, this year’s a new year. Gotta forget about last year and focus on what’s ahead. That’s what Doran’ll tell ’em, I betcha. “Forget about last year, boys, this is a new season, a new chance to prove yourselves.” That’s what a good coach does, keeps ’em focused, keeps ’em motivated.
So, there ya have it, my two cents on this St. Vincent-St. Mary football. Gonna be an interesting season, that’s for sure. Keep an eye on them Fighting Irish, they might just surprise ya. And who knows, maybe they’ll even bring home a championship. That’d be somethin’ to celebrate, wouldn’t it? A big ol’ parade down Main Street, folks cheerin’, horns honkin’, the whole shebang. That’s what we all dream of, ain’t it? A little bit of glory, a little bit of pride, a little bit of somethin’ to make us smile. And maybe, just maybe, this year’s the year them Fighting Irish bring it all home. We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we? Wait and see, and cheer ‘em on, every step of the way. Akron St Vincent St Mary Football, that’s what they call it, and that’s what we love.
The St. Vincent-St. Mary varsity football team has a tough schedule this year, but I reckon they can handle it. They got heart, them boys. They just gotta play their game, stick together, and never give up. And who knows, maybe they’ll even make it to the playoffs. That’d be somethin’ special, wouldn’t it? To see them boys playin’ for a championship, that’s the dream. And I believe they can do it. They got the talent, they got the coaching, and they got the support of the whole town. So let’s go Fighting Irish! Let’s show ’em what we’re made of! Let’s bring home that trophy!
