Alright, let’s talk about this logo quiz hockey thing, you know, the one with all them pictures of birds and bears and whatnot.
I ain’t no expert, mind you. I’m just an old lady who likes watchin’ the boys skate around and smack that little black puck. But this quiz thing, it’s kinda fun, even if I don’t know half the teams.
First off, they got all these fancy logos. Some are easy, like the one with the big ol’ bear. That’s gotta be Boston, right? Everybody knows the Boston bears. But then they got these other ones, with like, uh, swirly things and letters I can’t hardly read. Makes a body scratch their head, I tell ya.
- The Easy Ones: Like I said, the bear for Boston. And the bird for, uh, Chicago? I think that’s right. They got that red bird. And the one with the maple leaf, that’s gotta be Toronto, right? My grandson, he loves Toronto. Always wearin’ that blue shirt.
- The Tricky Ones: Now, some of them are real head-scratchers. They got one with a, uh, a shark, I think? Is that San Jose? And another one with, like, a… a hurricane? Carolina, maybe? See, it ain’t so easy when you get down to it.
- The Ones I Never Heard Of: Then there’s a bunch I just plain don’t know. They got all these new teams now, or maybe they ain’t so new and I’m just gettin’ old. Either way, some of them logos, they look like somethin’ my chickens coughed up. No offense to the chickens, mind you.
This quiz, it ain’t just about lookin’ at pictures, though. You gotta know your hockey, too. Like, which team won the Stanley Cup last year? I don’t rightly remember, but my grandson, he’d know. He keeps track of all that stuff. He’s got them hockey cards, too, all piled up in his room. Says they’re worth somethin’ someday. I tell him, “Boy, you better be studyin’ your school books instead of them cards!” But he don’t listen, kids these days.
Testing your hockey knowledge, that’s what they say this quiz is for. And I guess it does that, in a way. Makes you think about all them teams and all them players. Makes you remember the good ol’ days when Gordie Howe was still skatin’ and Bobby Orr was flyin’ through the air. Them were the days, I tell ya. Now they got all these fancy helmets and rules, and the game ain’t quite the same.
But this quiz, it brings back them memories, in a way. You see a logo, and you think, “Oh yeah, I remember when that team played against my team back in ’72.” Or maybe you don’t remember, but it makes you want to learn more about the game. That ain’t a bad thing, is it?
And they say you can compare your score to others. Well, I ain’t too worried about that. I’m just playin’ for fun, you know? If I get a few right, that’s good. If I get ’em all wrong, well, that’s okay too. It ain’t like they’re gonna take away my TV or nothin’.
Prove your allegiance, they say. Well, my allegiance is to good, hard-fought hockey. I don’t care much about which team wins, as long as they play fair and give it their all. And that’s what this quiz is about, in a way. It’s about the love of the game, the love of the competition, the love of seein’ them boys skate and shoot and score.
