Alright, let’s talk about some basketball fellas, the ones they say are the “best of the best,” the Hall of Famers. But you know, some of them, well, they ain’t all that great, if you ask me. They call it the worst NBA Hall of Famers, or somethin’ like that. Makes you scratch your head, it does.
Now, I ain’t no fancy basketball expert, but I’ve watched a game or two in my time. And some of these fellas they put in that Hall of Fame… well, they just don’t seem to stack up to the real legends, you know? The ones like Jordan and them fellas. Those were players!
See, they say it’s supposed to be for the greatest players ever. But then you see some of these guys and you think, “Really? That guy?” Some of them, their numbers ain’t so special. You know, like, they scored some points, sure, but were they really all that amazing? I ain’t so sure.
Take some of them fellas, they played a long time, scored a bunch of points, but their teams never won nothin’ big. Isn’t winning what it’s all about? I mean, you can score all you want, but if you ain’t helpin’ your team win championships, are you really one of the greats? Makes ya think, doesn’t it?
- Like, this one fella, they say he averaged, what was it? Like 13 points a game or somethin’? And some rebounds too. That’s alright, I guess, but is that Hall of Fame material? Back in my day, you needed to be a real standout to get that kind of recognition. These young fellas got it easy, I tell ya.
- Then there’s these other guys, real flashy players, good shooters, maybe, but they weren’t tough. They didn’t play hard-nosed defense, didn’t grab them rebounds. Basketball ain’t just about scoring, you gotta be tough too! You gotta be willin’ to get in there and fight for the ball.
Some folks say, “Oh, but they had a long career!” Well, so what? Being around a long time don’t make you great. I’ve been around a long time too, but nobody’s puttin’ me in no Hall of Fame! You gotta do somethin’ special, somethin’ memorable, somethin’ that makes people say, “Wow, that fella was somethin’ else!”
And don’t even get me started on some of them coaches they put in there. Coaching is important, sure, but some of them, they just had good players. It’s easy to look good when you got superstars on your team. A real good coach can take a bunch of average players and make ’em winners. That’s what I say.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ these fellas were bad players, mind you. They were good, some of ’em real good. But the Hall of Fame? That should be for the best of the best, the fellas who changed the game, the ones who were head and shoulders above everyone else. Not just the fellas who played a long time or scored a lot of points on losin’ teams.
They got fellas in there with fancy stats and all that, but did they inspire people? Did they make you wanna go out and play basketball? Did they leave a real mark on the game? That’s what matters, see? It ain’t just about numbers on a piece of paper, it’s about somethin’ more.
So yeah, they got their Hall of Fame, and it’s supposed to be a big deal. But sometimes I look at that list and I just shake my head. Some of them fellas, they just don’t belong there. They were good, sure, but they weren’t great. And that’s the difference, you know? Greatness. That’s what the Hall of Fame should be all about.
Anyways, that’s just my two cents. I ain’t no expert, like I said, but I know what I see. And some of them fellas in that Hall of Fame, well, they just ain’t all that great, not in my book.
Folks can argue all they want, but I know what I saw with my own two eyes. There are some fellas in there who made you hold your breath every time they touched the ball and then there are some that just… well, they just played basketball. And playing basketball for a long time, like I said, don’t mean you deserve to be up there with the real legends. You need that somethin’ special, that fire, that it factor. And some of them, they just didn’t have it, plain and simple. The worst NBA hall of famers? Well, they’re the ones you forget about five minutes after you see their names. They just didn’t stick with you, you know? Not like the real greats.
