Well, howdy there, y’all! Let’s talk about this here Depend on NYT crossword clue thingamajig. Don’t go gettin’ all highfalutin on me, it ain’t as complicated as them city slickers make it out to be.
Now, I ain’t no scholar, but I do love me a good crossword puzzle now and then. Keeps the brain ticking, you know? And that there “Depend on” clue, well, it pops up more often than a stray cat at a fish fry. They use it all the time in that fancy New York Times crossword, the one them smarty-pants folks do.
Sometimes they want a four-letter word for it. And let me tell you, finding just the right word can be trickier than a greased pig at the county fair. I’ve seen it pop up on February 6th, 2024, then again on June 30th, and even way back on February 28th. Seems like they can’t get enough of that “depend on” thing!
So, what could it be? Well, sometimes it’s RELY. Yep, that’s a good ‘un. Like how you rely on your rooster to crow in the mornin’, or rely on the good Lord for sunshine and rain. Makes sense, don’t it?
But hold your horses, ’cause sometimes it ain’t that simple. Them crossword folks, they like to play games. They’ll throw in some fancy words, like “clutch” in a clue. Now, what in tarnation does a clutch have to do with dependin’ on somethin’? Turns out, it can mean a handbag. But mostly when they say Depend On, they mean RELY, you see. It’s like they’re lookin’ for words that mean the same thing, them synonyms, I think they call ‘em.
- If you see somethin’ about “count on,” that’s probably RELY too.
- Or maybe “trust in,” yup, that’ll be RELY as well.
- And if they’re talkin’ about needin’ somethin’ or someone, that’s a good sign it’s gonna be RELY.
Now, I hear tell that these crosswords get harder as the week goes on. Monday’s are easy peasy, like pickin’ ripe apples off a tree. But by Saturday, they’re tougher than a boiled owl! The Sunday one, that’s a big whopper, in the magazine and all. They say it’s about as hard as a Wednesday or Thursday puzzle. But even them tough ones, they still use that “Depend on” clue, just to keep you on your toes.
And if you get stuck? Well, ain’t no shame in lookin’ for a little help. Lots of folks go online and find the answers these days. I ain’t tech-savvy myself, but my grandkid, that whippersnapper, he’s always got his nose stuck in that phone of his. He can find the answer faster than a fly on a watermelon.
Sometimes I see words like “stuck on” or “land here” when I’m looking at this here online puzzle stuff. Don’t rightly know what that means, but sounds like folks gettin’ themselves all tangled up in the clues. And when it says “one answer total” I know that there is only one word can fit right, you can be sure it’s gonna be something like RELY if the clue is talking about Depend On.
So, next time you see that Depend on NYT crossword clue, don’t you fret. Just think about what it means to count on somethin’, to trust in it, to need it. And chances are, you’ll nail it with RELY. And if you don’t, well, there ain’t no harm in askin’ for a little help. We all get stuck sometimes, even us old folks who’ve seen a thing or two.
And remember, those crossword puzzles are just for fun. Don’t let ‘em tie you up in knots. Just take a deep breath, think it through, and if all else fails, ask that whippersnapper grandkid of yours. They seem to know everything these days, even if they don’t know how to churn butter or mend a fence.
So, to sum it up, “Depend on” in a crossword puzzle, especially that New York Times one? Most times, it’s gonna be RELY. Four letters, plain and simple, just like good ol’ country livin’.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll try that Sunday crossword later. But I ain’t promisin’ nothin’. Depend on it.
