Well, let me tell ya, what this “thru” thing means in that golf game, the one them fancy folks like to play.
What does “thru” mean in golf? It’s simple, really. It just means how many holes a fella’s already played. Like, if they say “thru 5”, that means they done played five holes already. Ain’t nothin’ complicated about it. Just like countin’ eggs, ya know? One, two, three… same thing with them holes.
Sometimes you see it on them scoreboards, or them fellas yellin’ it out. “He’s thru 9!” they shout. Means that golfer is halfway done, seein’ as how there’s usually 18 holes in a round. Eighteen holes! Can you imagine walkin’ that far? My old legs would be killin’ me!
- Thru 5 means 5 holes played.
- Thru 10 means 10 holes played.
- Thru 18 means the whole darn game is done, finished, kaput!
Now, why they gotta use fancy words like “thru” instead of just sayin’ “played” is beyond me. Probably just them city folks tryna sound all smart and important. But don’t let it fool ya. It’s just a fancy way of sayin’ how far along someone is in their game. Like sayin’ “I walked halfway thru the cornfield” means I’m smack dab in the middle of it.
And this here “RND” thing they talk about? That’s just how good or bad someone’s doin’ in that round. If they say “-1”, that means they’re doin’ pretty good, one shot better than what they’re supposed to. If it’s “+1”, well, they ain’t doin’ so hot. It’s like countin’ how many eggs you broke on the way back from the hen house – the fewer the better.
Then there’s this “F” thing. That just means they’re finished. Done. No more golfin’ for them that day. Probably off to drink some lemonade or somethin’. Lord knows, after walkin’ around all day hittin’ a little white ball, I’d be thirsty too.
And sometimes, them golfers, they “play through.” That’s when one group of golfers gets to go ahead of another group. Maybe the group in front is slow, or maybe someone’s gotta go take a leak, who knows. But they just pass ’em by, like passin’ a slow tractor on the highway.
Playing through ain’t got nothin’ to do with the “thru” we talked about earlier, the one that means how many holes you played. It’s just another one of them fancy golf terms. They got a million of ’em, I swear. All them words just to hit a little ball with a stick! Makes no sense to me.
So, next time you hear someone talkin’ about “thru” in golf, don’t go gettin’ all confused. Just remember it means how many holes they done played. It’s as simple as that. And if they start usin’ all them other fancy words, just nod your head and pretend you understand. That’s what I do. Works like a charm.
Heck, golf seems like a lot of walkin’ for not much excitement. I’d rather be tendin’ to my garden or feedin’ the chickens. At least then I know I’m gettin’ somethin’ done. But hey, to each their own, I always say. If them folks wanna spend their day chasin’ a little white ball around, that’s their business. Just as long as they don’t expect me to understand all their fancy lingo.
So there ya have it. “Thru” in golf means holes played. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my biscuits. They’re probably done bakin’ by now, and I ain’t about to let ‘em burn!
