Sometimes you see it on them scoreboards, or them fellas yellin’ it out. “He’s thru 9!” they shout. Means that golfer is halfway done, seein’ as how there’s usually 18 holes in a round. Eighteen holes! Can you imagine walkin’ that far? My old legs would be killin’ me!

- Thru 10 means 10 holes played.
- Thru 18 means the whole darn game is done, finished, kaput!
Now, why they gotta use fancy words like “thru” instead of just sayin’ “played” is beyond me. Probably just them city folks tryna sound all smart and important. But don’t let it fool ya. It’s just a fancy way of sayin’ how far along someone is in their game. Like sayin’ “I walked halfway thru the cornfield” means I’m smack dab in the middle of it.
And this here “RND” thing they talk about? That’s just how good or bad someone’s doin’ in that round. If they say “-1”, that means they’re doin’ pretty good, one shot better than what they’re supposed to. If it’s “+1”, well, they ain’t doin’ so hot. It’s like countin’ how many eggs you broke on the way back from the hen house – the fewer the better.
Then there’s this “F” thing. That just means they’re finished. Done. No more golfin’ for them that day. Probably off to drink some lemonade or somethin’. Lord knows, after walkin’ around all day hittin’ a little white ball, I’d be thirsty too.
And sometimes, them golfers, they “play through.” That’s when one group of golfers gets to go ahead of another group. Maybe the group in front is slow, or maybe someone’s gotta go take a leak, who knows. But they just pass ’em by, like passin’ a slow tractor on the highway.
