Alright, let’s talk about this baseball thing, this… mlb positions wheel, you know? My grandson, he’s always yappin’ about it. Says it’s some kinda game, learnin’ all them spots on the field.
First thing’s first, they got this… this catcher fella. He’s the one squattin’ down behind the hitter, looks like he’s tryin’ to catch a chicken or somethin’. Tough job, that one. Always gettin’ bumped and bruised. My grandson says it’s the hardest spot to play. Maybe so, maybe so.
- Catcher – Gotta be tough as nails, and quick too.
- Pitcher – This one throws the ball. Kinda like throwin’ rocks at them pesky crows, but with more aim, I guess. They say these fellas are real important, the whole game starts with them. Big shots, they are, thinkin’ they’re so special.
- First Baseman – Stands right there by that first bag. My grandson says it ain’t too hard, just gotta catch the ball. Sounds easy enough, even I could do that, probably. Just gotta be taller, so you can reach for the ball and don’t move around so much. Easy peasy.
- Second Baseman – This one’s always runnin’ around, kinda like a chicken with its head cut off. Gotta be fast and nimble, I reckon.
- Third Baseman – Over there by that third bag. Not so much runnin’ as the second baseman, but still gotta be on your toes. My grandson says this spot ain’t that hard, but what does he know? He’s just a young’un.
- Shortstop – Now this one, they say he’s gotta be the best fielder, coverin’ a lot of ground. Like a sheepdog herdin’ sheep, but with a baseball glove.
Then there’s them outfielders, way out there in the grass. Looks like they’re just waitin’ for the ball to come to them.
Left Fielder, Center Fielder, Right Fielder… they all just chase after the ball when it gets hit far. Center fielder, he’s gotta be the fastest, coverin’ the most ground. Like chasin’ after a runaway pig, that’s what it looks like to me.
This mlb positions wheel thing, it spins around and points to one of them spots. Like a game of chance, I guess. My grandson says it helps him remember who plays where. He spins that wheel, and then he tells me all about that position. He’s always yellin’, “Grandma, look! It landed on the pitcher!” or “Grandma, this time it’s the shortstop!” Kids these days, always findin’ new ways to learn things. Back in my day, we just learned by doin’, not by spinnin’ no fancy wheel.
Seems to me, this whole baseball thing is awful complicated. All these different spots, all these different fellas runnin’ around. But my grandson, he loves it. Says it’s the best game in the world. I don’t get it, myself. Too much runnin’ and throwin’ for my taste. I’d rather be sittin’ on the porch, sippin’ sweet tea, and watchin’ the clouds go by. But if it makes him happy, that’s all that matters, I reckon. He’s always talkin’ about different baseball positions and their numbers. He watches videos about it too! Said something about the “quirks of the system.” Whatever that means. Kids and their fancy words.
This mlb position wheel, it’s a good way to teach young’uns, I guess. Makes it more fun than just listenin’ to somebody drone on and on. It’s all about baseball field positions. And there’s so many positions in baseball! Seems like a lot to keep straight. You gotta know where everyone stands, what they do. It’s like a big puzzle, and that wheel helps put the pieces together. My grandson says there ain’t really a “best” position. Everyone’s gotta do their part. Like a team of horses pullin’ a wagon, everyone’s gotta pull their weight. He says you should try out all positions to learn the game better. Sounds like a lot of work to me, but he enjoys it so it doesn’t matter to me.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about this mlb positions wheel thing. Not much, I admit. But I’m just an old woman. What do I know about baseball? But I love my grandson, and if he loves baseball, then I guess I gotta try to understand it, even if it’s just a little bit. And this wheel, well, it helps me do that, in its own silly way. It’s a game, he says, not just learning. An open-ended game, to be exact. So it seems like this mlb position wheel is good for both learning and playing. He says it ain’t got no scores, though, or anything like a leaderboard. Just for fun, I guess.
Maybe I’ll even give that wheel a spin myself sometime. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn a thing or two. Or maybe I’ll just end up more confused than ever. Either way, it’ll give me somethin’ to talk about with my grandson, and that’s worth more than any baseball game, if you ask me.
