Alright, so you wanna know about them fellas from UConn who play in that there NBA, huh? Well, let me tell ya, UConn, that’s a place where they grow ’em strong and talented. I’ve seen a bunch of ’em on the TV, runnin’ and jumpin’ like nobody’s business. Some good, some not so good, ya know?
First off, there’s this fella, Ray Allen. He’s old now, like me practically, but boy, could he shoot! They say he’s one of the best shooters ever. I remember watchin’ him, flickin’ that wrist and swish, nothin’ but net. He played a long time, that one did. Real dedicated, I reckon. He musta practiced a lot, that’s for sure. No lazy bones, he wasn’t.
Then there’s Kemba Walker. Now, he was a little fella, but quick as a hiccup! Dribbled the ball like it was glued to his hand. He could score, too, real flashy. He was fun to watch, always kept you on the edge of your seat. Made some big plays, that Kemba. A real go-getter, he was.
And don’t forget about Richard Hamilton, they call him “Rip”. Another shooter, like Ray Allen, but different somehow. More… smooth, I guess. He had this funny mask he wore, looked like somethin’ out of a comic book. But he could play, that’s for sure. He and Ray Allen, they were somethin’ else together back in the day.
There’s that big fella, Emeka Okafor. Strong as an ox, he was. Good at grabbin’ them rebounds and blockin’ shots. A real inside player, ya know? Not fancy, but he got the job done. He played hard, that’s what I liked about him. Always gave it his all.
Now, they got some youngsters too, fresh outta college. Like Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan. They just got drafted, so they’re just startin’ out. Big fellas, both of ’em. We’ll see how they do, it ain’t easy in that NBA. Gotta be tough, gotta be smart, gotta be lucky, I reckon. Hope they make us proud, them boys.
- Ray Allen – That shooter, he was somethin’ special.
- Kemba Walker – Little guy, big heart, fast as lightning.
- Richard Hamilton – The man with the mask, smooth operator.
- Emeka Okafor – Big and strong, a real workhorse.
- Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan – The new kids on the block, we’ll see what they got.
They say UConn, they got a good program. They teach ‘em right, I guess. Lots of players from there go on to the NBA. Must be somethin’ in the water, or maybe it’s the coaches, I dunno. But they keep churnin’ ’em out, year after year. It’s impressive, I gotta say. Even an old lady like me can appreciate that.
And there’s others too, not just the famous ones. Lots of fellas who played a few years, bounced around a bit. They all worked hard, I’m sure of it. It’s a tough life, that NBA life. Always travelin’, always playin’, always gotta be at your best. Not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. Takes a special kinda person to make it.
So yeah, UConn, they got a good track record. They produce some fine basketball players. From the old timers like Ray Allen to the new fellas just startin’ out, they all got somethin’ special. And I’ll be watchin’ ‘em, seein’ how they do. Rootin’ for ‘em, even if I don’t always understand all them fancy plays they run. It’s just good basketball, plain and simple. And that’s somethin’ I can always appreciate.
This year, they say there’s like seven of ’em playin’, plus a couple more on them two-way contracts. That’s a lot, ain’t it? UConn must be doin’ somethin’ right. Keeps them boys comin’, that’s for sure. And it ain’t just the players, the whole team, the Huskies they call ’em, they’re good too. Won a bunch of championships, I hear. Good for them, I say. Good for them.
