Alright, listen up, y’all. We gonna talk about this here NBA 2k24 hook shot thing, ya hear? My grandson, he’s always playin’ this game, yellin’ and hollerin’ at the TV. Says he can’t make no hook shots. Well, Granny’s here to tell ya, it ain’t rocket science, even if this here game is all fancy and newfangled.
First thing’s first, this here Joel Embiid fella, the game folks say he’s got a good hook. So, you wanna do what he does, watch his feet when he shoots. That’s what my grandson told me, anyway. He says somethin’ about the “release.” I dunno what that means, but you watch them feet, see how he does it.
Now, the buttons. My grandson says you gotta hold that stick thingy, the one on the left, towards the hoop. You know, where you throw the ball. Then, you gotta tap that “X” button, or maybe it’s a square if you got one of them fancy Playstation thingamajigs. Gotta tap it twice, mind you. Double tap, that’s what he calls it. Sounds like somethin’ you do when you’re dancin’, but hey, whatever works, right?
My grandson, he’s always talkin’ about “efficiency.” Says you gotta make your shots count. Well, duh! Ain’t nobody got time to be missin’ all the time. So, you gotta learn this hook shot good, make it go in the hoop every time. Or at least, most of the time. Nobody’s perfect, not even that Embiid fella, I bet.
And get this, there’s these “hot zones” and “cold zones” in the game. Like, if you shoot from a hot zone, the ball’s more likely to go in. If you shoot from a cold zone, well, good luck with that. It’s like when you’re bakin’ a pie, gotta have the oven at the right temperature, ya know? Same kinda thing, I guess.
So, to make this here hook shot work, you gotta jump with the foot that’s closest to the basket. My grandson says if you’re right-handed, that’s your left foot. Sounds kinda backwards to me, but he’s the one playin’ the game, so I guess he knows. Then you gotta swing your arm, like you’re sweepin’ the floor, but up high. And flick your wrist, like you’re throwin’ salt over your shoulder for good luck. My grandma used to do that, said it kept the devil away. Maybe it’ll help with your hook shot too, who knows?
And don’t forget to practice. My grandson, he plays this game for hours, says he’s “grinding.” Sounds like hard work to me, but he says it’s fun. So you gotta grind too, practice that hook shot until you can do it with your eyes closed. Well, maybe not with your eyes closed, but you get the idea.
- So, here’s the gist of it:
- Watch Joel Embiid’s feet.
- Hold the left stick towards the basket.
- Double tap X (or square).
- Jump with the correct foot.
- Sweep your arm and flick your wrist.
- Practice, practice, practice!
Now, I ain’t no gamer, but I know a thing or two about hard work and practice. That’s how you get good at anything, whether it’s bakin’ a pie, plantin’ a garden, or even shootin’ a hook shot in some fancy video game. So go on, get to it! And don’t come cryin’ to Granny if you can’t make it on the first try. Just keep at it, and you’ll get there. And tell that grandson of mine to stop yellin’ at the TV, it ain’t gonna help nothin’.
And one more thing, if you keep missin’, maybe try prayin’. It can’t hurt, right? My grandma always said, “The Lord helps those who help themselves,” but a little extra help never hurt nobody. Now go on, get out there and make that hook shot! And don’t forget to eat your vegetables, they’ll make you strong and help you with your “release,” whatever that is.
Anyways, I gotta go make some supper now. All this talk about basketball is makin’ me hungry. You kids have fun with your game, and remember what Granny told ya. Watch them feet, tap them buttons, and practice till your fingers fall off. Or at least until you can make that darn hook shot every time.
