Alright, let’s gab about this… uh… maxx crosby helmet thing, ya know? My grandson, that young whippersnapper, he’s always yappin’ about this fella. Says he’s some kinda football star. Honestly, I don’t get it, all that runnin’ around and bashin’ into each other. Seems plumb crazy to me, but hey, to each their own, I always say.
So, this helmet, right? Seems like a big deal. My grandson keeps showin’ me pictures on that little shiny box he carries around – a “smart phone” he calls it. Always gluin’ his eyes to it, that boy. Anyways, the helmet looks all shiny and fancy, with all sorts of colors and stickers and stuff. They got them big ones, like the fellas wear on the field, and then they got them little bitty ones, like toys, almost.
Now, from what I gather, these helmets ain’t just for protectin’ heads. Folks collect ‘em, like they collect stamps or them little porcelain birds my sister used to have. They pay good money for ‘em too, especially if this Maxx Crosby fella signed it. Imagine that! Someone scribblin’ their name on somethin’ makes it worth more. The world’s a funny place, I tell ya.
I seen some of them helmets on that shiny box, they got all sorts of fancy words on ‘em like “authentic” and “official” and “signed”. Sounds important, I guess. My grandson, he was tellin’ me about some website, Fan somethin’ or other, where you can buy these helmets. Said they got all kinds, big ones, small ones, signed ones, unsigned ones. Said they even got pictures and other stuff this Maxx Crosby fella signed. Lordy, people will buy anything these days.
And the prices? Don’t even get me started! Hundreds of dollars for a helmet! That’s more than I paid for my first car, I reckon. But folks seem to love ‘em. My grandson, he’s always dreamin’ about gettin’ one. Says it would look good in his “fan cave.” Fan cave? That boy and his fancy words. It’s just his room in the basement, but he likes to make it sound all special.
- Big helmets: Like the players wear. Cost a pretty penny, I hear.
- Little helmets: More like toys, I guess. Still cost more than they should, if you ask me.
- Signed helmets: That’s where the real money is. Someone scribbles their name, and suddenly it’s worth a fortune. Go figure.
They also got somethin’ called “Guardian Caps,” sounds like somethin’ you put on your head to keep warm in the winter, but no, it’s somethin’ they put on top of the helmets! Can ya believe it? Another helmet on top of a helmet! They say it’s for safety, to soften the blows. Well, I guess that makes sense, all that head bashin’ they do. Still seems like a lot of fuss to me.
Anyway, this Maxx Crosby fella, he seems to be a big deal. And his helmets, well, they’re a big deal too, apparently. People like ‘em, they collect ‘em, they pay big bucks for ‘em. Me? I still don’t get it. But if it makes folks happy, then I guess it’s alright. Just seems like a whole lot of money for somethin’ you wear on your head to bash into other people. But hey, that’s just me, an old woman who don’t know nothin’ about fancy football helmets. But I do know good money when I see it being spent. My grandson, he keeps talkin’ about it so much, maybe I will get one for that boy for Christmas. It’ll keep him happy, and Lord knows, keeping him happy keeps me happy. And that, as they say, is priceless!
