Alright, let’s yak about them hockey fellas, the ones stoppin’ the puck. Them NHL highest paid goalies, they make a heap of money, more than I ever seen in my whole life, that’s for sure.
Now, I heard tell there’s this fella, Igor somethin’-or-other, plays for the New York Rangers. They say he’s the richest goalie now, signed a big ol’ contract, somethin’ like eight years for 92 million dollars. Can ya believe that? 92 million! That’s enough to buy all the chickens and cows in my whole county, and then some!
They say he makes ’bout 11.5 million a year. Now, I ain’t no good at math, never went past the third grade, but that sounds like a whole lotta money. My grandson told me that’s like more than a hundred thousand dollars a month. Good lord, what do ya even do with all that cash?
See, these goalies, they important fellas on the ice. They the ones gotta stop that little black puck from goin’ in the net. If they good, the team wins. If they bad, well, the team loses. It’s as simple as that. My old man used to say, “A good goalie is worth his weight in gold,” and I reckon he was right, ‘specially these days.
I heard tell there’s other goalies makin’ good money too. They was talkin’ ’bout some fella named Skinner. Said he was good ’cause he wins a lot of games. Guess that’s how ya get the big bucks in hockey, ya gotta win.
- You gotta stop that puck, that’s the main thing.
- Winning games helps, a whole lot.
- Being good at stoppin’ the puck means big money.
I don’t rightly understand all them fancy stats they talk about. My grandson tries to explain it to me, but it just goes in one ear and out the other. All I know is, if the goalie stops the puck, he’s doin’ his job. And if he does it real good, he gets paid a whole heap of money.
Makes ya wonder though, where does all that money go? I mean, you can only eat so much, and you can only wear so many clothes. Maybe they buy fancy cars and big houses, I don’t know. Me, I’d be happy with a new tractor and a bigger chicken coop. But I ain’t stoppin’ no pucks, so I guess I’ll stick to my little farm.
But them goalies, they somethin’ else. They riskin’ their necks out there on the ice, gettin’ hit with that hard puck. It ain’t no easy job, that’s for sure. And I guess that’s why they make so much money. They worth every penny, I reckon, if they keepin’ that puck outta the net and helpin’ their team win. It’s a tough job, and them fellas, they train hard and play hard. And for that, they get paid the big bucks.
So, next time you watchin’ one of them hockey games, pay attention to that goalie. He’s the one keepin’ the other team from scorin’. And he’s probably makin’ more money than you and me put together. But that’s alright, he earned it. He’s the backbone of the team, the last line of defense, and them NHL highest paid goalies deserve every dollar they get, even if it’s more than I can even imagine.
It’s a young man’s game, too. These fellas are out there skatin’ and slidin’ and stoppin’ pucks, and they gotta be in tip-top shape to do it. I remember when I was young, I could run all day. Now, I’m lucky if I can make it to the mailbox without gettin’ winded. But these goalies, they like them energizer bunnies, they just keep goin’ and goin’.
And that’s what gets you the big bucks, I figure. Being good, being reliable, and being able to keep doing it year after year. That’s what makes ya an NHL highest paid goalie. Not just talent, but grit and determination too. It’s a tough business, but someone’s gotta do it. And for them fellas, that “someone” gets paid a whole lot of dough.
