Alright, so you wanna know about this Robin Roberts and basketball, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, this lady, she’s somethin’ else. Not like those fancy-pants players you see on TV nowadays, all flashy and whatnot. She played ball back in the day, you know, when things were tougher, when you had to really work for it.
Robin Roberts, she went to Southeastern Louisiana University. Played basketball there, became a big star, scored a whole bunch of points, like, 1,446 they say. And rebounds? Don’t even get me started! She was a reboundin’ machine, one of the best the school ever saw. They say she’s at the top of the list, you know, the real deal.
Now, she didn’t go on to play in that WNBA thing, the women’s professional league. But that don’t mean nothin’. She took all that basketball know-how and used it for somethin’ good. She went on TV, became a sportscaster. Yeah, you heard that right. Talkin’ ’bout sports on ESPN for 15 years! A long time, that is. She even talked ’bout football, that NFL thing, a real pioneer, that’s what she was.
- Southeastern Louisiana University star player
- Lots of points and rebounds
- Didn’t play in WNBA, but…
- Became a sportscaster on ESPN
And get this, she wasn’t just any sportscaster. She was the first woman to co-host this show, NFL Primetime. Imagine that! A woman talkin’ ’bout football back then. That took guts, I tell ya. And then, in 2005, she moved on to somethin’ even bigger, Good Morning America. You know, that mornin’ show? She’s the co-anchor there. Big time stuff.
They even gave her an award, this WNBA Inspiration Award, back in 2008. See? Even though she didn’t play in the WNBA, they knew she was special. She inspired folks, showed ’em that women can do anything they set their minds to, whether it’s basketball or talkin’ on TV.
She also wrote a book, called “From the Heart”. I ain’t read it myself, you know, I’m too busy with my own chores, but I hear it’s good. She tells her story, all ’bout her life and stuff. And there’s another book too, by another basketball lady, A’ja Wilson, you know, the WNBA star? Robin helped with that one too. Seein’ a pattern here? This lady, she loves basketball and wants everyone to know ‘bout it.
Now, don’t get her mixed up with that other Robin Roberts, the baseball pitcher. That’s a whole different story, a whole different person. This Robin Roberts, she’s the basketball one, the TV one, the inspiration. A real strong woman, the kind we need more of in this world.
So, yeah, that’s the lowdown on Robin Roberts and basketball. She played it, she loved it, she used it to make a difference. And that, my friends, is somethin’ to be proud of. Now, you go on and tell everyone you know ‘bout this amazing lady, okay? Don’t forget now!
She’s more than just a basketball player, she’s a role model. Showing young girls that they can do anything. Whether it’s sports or TV, or whatever they set their mind to. That’s what matters, ain’t it? Just work hard and be good, that’s what I always say.
And that’s all I gotta say ‘bout that. Go on now, you got things to do.
