Alright, let’s talk about them fancy car races, the ones they call F1. You know, the ones where them cars zoom around real fast and then they gotta stop for a bit. That’s what they call a pit stop, I think.
So, this year, 2023, them fellas in them fast cars, they spent, on average, about 30 seconds in the pit. Thirty seconds! Can you imagine? That’s like half a minute. I can barely walk to the outhouse and back in that time. And they do all sorts of things in that time, changing tires and whatnot. Heard tell it’s like 35% of a real fast lap time. Them laps, they’re like, uh, one minute and twenty-something seconds. Fast, I tell ya, real fast.
Now, some of them pit stops, they’re even quicker. The fastest one ever, they say, was like 1.8 seconds. 1.8 seconds! That’s quicker than a blink of an eye, almost. Some team called McLaren, they did that. Good for them, I guess. Usually, though, it’s more like 2 or 3 seconds, which is still mighty fast if you ask me.
There’s this one team, Red Bull, they’re real good at it. They hold the record, or somethin’ like that, at 1.82 seconds. Did it back in 2019, I heard. Guess them boys practice a lot, like my grandson practicing his roping.
- Pit stops, they ain’t always the same length.
- Sometimes they’re real short, sometimes a little longer.
- Depends on the track, I reckon, and what’s happenin’ in the race.
How many times they stop? Well, that’s a whole ‘nother story. Usually, it’s between one and four times, they say. Depends on the track, like how bumpy it is, and if it’s rainin’ or somethin’. But mostly, they stop twice, on average. Unless somethin’ goes wrong, of course. Then they might have to stop more. Like if a tire blows or somethin’.
Speaking of tracks, they got different ones all over the world. Some are fast, some are slow. Some are long, some are short. And that affects how long them pit stops take, and how many times they gotta stop.
Now, this McLaren team, they had that real fast pit stop, remember? It was their anniversary or somethin’, a year since they did somethin’ real good. Guess they were celebratin’ with that fast pit stop. Good for them, I say.
There’s this fella, George Russell, I heard his name mentioned. He had a pit stop, took him near 40 seconds one time. Long time, that is. Another fella, Gasly, had a few stops, took him over a minute all together. And then there’s Piastri, another racer, had a pit stop too. Lots of stoppin’ and goin’, these fellas do.
So, there you have it. A little somethin’ about them pit stops in F1 racing. They’re fast, they’re important, and they can make or break a race, it seems. Thirty seconds on average, they say. But sometimes, they’re a whole lot quicker. And sometimes, they’re a bit longer. Just depends, I guess. Like life, huh? Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. You just gotta keep on goin’.
Anyways, that’s all I know about it. Don’t know much about these fancy car races, but I tried my best to tell ya what I heard. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens.
