Alright, let’s talk about them Eye-talian fellas playin’ hockey, the NHL kind. You know, the one with all the ice and sticks and whatnot. Folks keep askin’ me, “Who are these guys?” Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t easy findin’ much, but I dug around some.
Now, from what I hear, there ain’t a whole heap of ‘em. Seems like them Eye-talians, they like their soccer more, or football, whatever they call it. But hockey? Not so much. But there are a few, or at least there were. Like that one fella, the one playin’ for… uh… shoot, what was it… Buffalo? Yeah, Buffalo Sabers, that’s it. And the New York Rangers too, just one game though. He was the only one with NHL experience playin’ for Italy this year, 2024. Thirty-one years old, they say. Only player with NHL experience for Italy in 2024. That’s what I heard, anyway.

Now, playin’ in the NHL, that ain’t no walk in the park, lemme tell ya. It’s tough. You gotta be strong, like that big fella, six foot five, they say, and 215 pounds. A big ol’ defenseman. You gotta be tough and skate real good. These fellas, the ones who make it, they got somethin’ special. They work hard, real hard. It ain’t just about bein’ born with talent, no sir. It’s about puttin’ in the time, day in and day out. Hard work and dedication, that’s what it takes. Just like that Gretzky fella, everyone talks about him. Guess he was somethin’ special.
And it ain’t just about the work, see? It’s about the heart. These players, they love the game. You gotta love it to put yourself through all that. Skatin’ all the time, gettin’ hit, travelin’ all over the place. It ain’t for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. They gotta be determined, real determined. Gotta have that fire in their belly. They overcome challenges, big ones, to get where they are. Determination, dedication, and a love for the game. That’s what makes ’em tick, I reckon.
And you know, when they do somethin’ good, you gotta tell ’em. Not just “good job,” no. You gotta be specific. Tell ’em exactly what they did right, on that particular play. That’s how they learn, how they get better. Encouragement, that’s important. Makes ’em feel good, makes ’em wanna keep goin’. Specific praise is important for player development. Makes sense to me.
So, back to them Eye-talian fellas. Like I said, not too many of ‘em in the NHL. But the ones who made it, they got a story to tell. Stories of hard work, of overcoming obstacles, of lovin’ the game. Inspiring stories, they call ’em. And you know what? They are inspiring. Shows you what you can do if you put your mind to it. Inspirational hockey stories, that’s what they are. Reminds you that success ain’t easy. You gotta work for it.
So, there you have it. A little somethin’ about them Eye-talian NHL players. Not a whole lot, but enough to get you thinkin’. Maybe one day there’ll be more of ’em. Who knows? The game’s always changin’, always growin’. Maybe them Eye-talians will catch the hockey bug big time. We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we? The future of Italian hockey players in the NHL, it’s a wait-and-see situation.
