Well, let me tell you, this here Utah Hockey Club thing, it’s a big deal around here. They got this development camp, see? It’s where they get all them young fellas, the ones who can skate real good, and they try to make ’em even better. I hear they got some good ones this year, too. That’s what the folks at the store were sayin’ the other day. They even say when to watch Utah Hockey, it’s October 8. I don’t know nothing about hockey but they say it’s a good thing for Utah.
This Utah Hockey Club development camp roster, it’s just a list of names, long as my arm. Now, I don’t know most of these boys, but a few of ’em, their names ring a bell. They say this Clayton Keller, he’s one of the best. And there’s a fella named Mikhail Something-or-other, he’s supposed to be pretty good too. And some Sean Durzi, I guess he’s alright. They’re like the stars, you know. They shine the brightest. Important fellas for this Utah Hockey.
They got all kinds of trainin’ for these boys at this development camp. They skate and they shoot and they bump into each other. It’s rough stuff. Not like when I was young, we just played outside ’til the streetlights came on. But I guess that’s how they make ’em good at hockey these days. Hard work, that’s the ticket.
- Clayton Keller
- Mikhail Sergachev
- Sean Durzi
Now, the folks who own this whole Utah Hockey Club shebang, they’re smart cookies. This Ryan Smith fella, he’s the big cheese. He owns some big company, something about surveys. He’s the one who brought this whole hockey thing to Utah. I hear folks saying it’s a good thing. Makes our little town feel important, I reckon. This Smith guy, and another fella, Gary Bettman, they’re always on the TV talkin’ about this hockey team.
They say they wanted a name that folks around here would like. Something that sounds good to Utah folks. So they’re taking their time, thinking it over. That’s smart. No need to rush into things. They say they had lots of surveys about the Utah hockey club team name, whatever that means.
This whole Utah Hockey Club development camp roster thing, it’s got everyone talking. Even old folks like me, who don’t know a hockey puck from a hole in the ground. It’s exciting, I suppose. Something new and different. Keeps things interesting around here. They even got the date for the first game. October 8, against some team from Chicago. I don’t know nothin’ about them, but I hear they got a good young player. They say this whole thing’s gonna be good for Utah. Bring folks in, spend money, that sort of thing.
They practice at that Olympic Oval. Big place. I ain’t never been there myself, but I seen it on the TV. Lots of ice. They start real early too, these hockey boys. 10:45 in the morning! Back in my day, we didn’t even think about getting up that early, unless there were chores to be done.
This Utah Hockey Club, they got a whole list of players, too. Not just the development camp fellas. They got the regular team, too. Big, strong boys. Some of ’em are tall as trees, I hear. And they got all their information listed out: how tall they are, how much they weigh, when they were born. Everything you’d ever want to know about a hockey player, I reckon. They got all kinds of players, from all over the place.
So, this development camp roster, it’s just the start. These young fellas, they’re gonna learn a lot, I reckon. They’ll get better and stronger, and maybe one day, they’ll be stars, just like that Keller boy. And it is good for Utah. It is! I hear that all the time from folks.
This whole thing, it’s a big deal for Salt Lake City. That’s where the team is based, you know. Salt Lake City. Used to be just a regular town, but now it’s a hockey town. This Utah Hockey Club, they’re putting us on the map, I reckon. And that’s something, ain’t it?
I don’t know much about hockey, like I said. But I know this: when them boys take the ice, folks around here are gonna be watching. And cheering. And that’s a good thing. It is a good thing for Utah. This Utah Hockey Club development camp roster, it’s the start of something big. You just wait and see.
