Well, let me tell you, these hockey games on the TV, they sure do go on for a while. I remember when my grandson, bless his heart, used to play. We’d sit down to watch, and it felt like we were there all day! You’d think it’d be just a short little thing, but nope. These hockey games on tv, they are long.
They say a hockey game is 60 minutes long. Sixty minutes! But that ain’t the whole story, not by a long shot. They got these things called “periods,” three of ’em, each one is 20 minutes. So that’s your 60 minutes right there. But between those, they got what they call “intermissions.” Time for folks to stretch their legs, get a snack, you know. Those intermissions, they last, oh, ’bout 15, maybe even 18 minutes each, seems like.
- First period, 20 minutes.
- Intermission, 15-18 minutes, I reckon.
- Second period, another 20 minutes.
- Another intermission, 15-18 minutes again, my goodness!
- Third period, last 20 minutes.
Then, you got all sorts of other things that slow it down. Sometimes someone gets hurt, takes time to get ’em off the ice. Or the glass breaks, gotta fix that up. And don’t even get me started on them commercial breaks! They just keep coming, one after another, makes it last even longer. All them breaks add up to the length of the hockey game on tv.
So, you see, it ain’t just 60 minutes. It’s way more than that. If a game starts at, say, 7 o’clock, you won’t be done ’til at least 9:30, maybe even later! Lord have mercy, it can be a long night. Sometimes, they go into something called “overtime” if the score is all tied up. More hockey game on tv time. And after that, there is a “shootout” thing. Just drags it on and on, I tell ya. Make it extra long.
And all that time, they’re showing it on the TV. Same as if you were there in person, sittin’ in those seats. Takes just as long, maybe even longer with all those commercials they throw in. They say on average a hockey game on tv is 2 and a half hours. But it feels like a lifetime when you’re waitin’ for it to end. Sometimes longer than that 2.5 hours!
My grandson, he loves it though. He could watch hockey all day and all night. Me, I like to watch a little bit, but after a while, I just get tired. I’d rather be doing something else, maybe knitting or watching my stories. But hey, to each their own, right?
So, to answer your question, how long is a hockey game on tv? Well, it’s a whole lot longer than you might think. Plan on at least 2 and a half hours, maybe 3. Could be more if they go into overtime or have those shootouts. It’s a long time, that’s for sure. And sometimes those players, they get into fights! Adds even more time. More time to the length of a hockey game on tv.
You know, back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy TVs and long hockey games. We had to make our own fun. We’d play outside ’til dark, and nobody worried about what time it was. But these days, everything’s on a schedule. Even how long a hockey game on tv is. And if the glass gets broken or if the players are injured, they have to stop. Then start again. Adds to the length.
Anyways, I hope that answers your question. Just remember it is not as short and sweet as you might think. These young folks today, they got it easy with their fancy TVs and all. But one thing is for sure, a hockey game on tv will take a lot of time to watch.
