Alright, y’all, let’s talk some basketball, NBA stuff, you know? Like, who did what and when. I ain’t no fancy expert, but I know a thing or two ’bout them fellas runnin’ up and down the court. So, we gonna have ourselves a little quiz, and don’t you worry, I’ll give you the answers too. This ain’t gonna be one of them hard tests they give them city kids. This is for fun, like gossiping with your neighbor, but about basketball.
First question! Who is the only team to defeat the Celtics at Boston (Madison Square) Garden during the 1985-1986 season? Now, hold on a minute, that sounds a little fishy. Madison Square Garden ain’t in Boston, that’s in New York! Someone’s tryin’ to trick us! Anyways, them Celtics back then, they were tough as nails, nobody could beat ‘em at home, ‘cept… well, nobody could beat ’em at home during the regular season, that’s what they mean. They lost to the Lakers in the Finals, but that don’t count, ’cause that ain’t in the regular season. But the question says “Madison Square Garden” so I guess it’s a trick question. The real answer is there is no such team, ‘cause the Celtics don’t play at Madison Square Garden. They play in Boston Garden at that time. So there ya go, a little tricky one to start us off.
Next up! George Gervin’s ‘most points scored in a quarter’ record was broken in 2015. Now, George Gervin, the “Iceman,” that fella could score! Smooth as butter, he was. But records, they made to be broken, ain’t they? Like that old tractor in the shed, it worked fine for years, but then somethin’ newer and fancier comes along. So, who broke his record? That would be Klay Thompson, yes that Golden State Warriors shooter. That boy got hot, like a skillet on a wood stove, and poured in 37 points in a quarter! Thirty-seven! Can you imagine? That’s like scorin’ a whole game’s worth of points in just one quarter. Poor George, his record was standin’ for a long, long time. Bless his heart. Still a legend, though, that Iceman.
Let’s try another one. Who won the NBA championship in 1996? Well, that was right in the middle of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ reign. They were unbeatable. So the answer is the Chicago Bulls. They had some great players, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman to name a few. They beat the Seattle Supersonics in the finals that year.
Okay, here’s a question: Who has the most NBA championships? Well, that’s gotta be the Boston Celtics, ain’t it? They been around forever, and they got all them banners hangin’ up. But the Lakers are coming close, with them Lebron James championships. I think the Lakers have more championships, so the answer is Boston Celtics for a while, but now it is Lakers. It’s one of them two though, for sure. Them other teams, they ain’t got nothin’ on them Celtics and Lakers when it comes to winnin’ championships.
- Who was the NBA Finals MVP in 2023? Nikola Jokic
- Who was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2022? Scottie Barnes
- Who was the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2021? Rudy Gobert
See, this ain’t so hard, is it? Just a bunch of fellas runnin’ around, throwin’ a ball in a hoop. But it’s fun to keep track of who’s doin’ what, and who’s the best. Makes for good conversation at the diner, you know? “Did you see that game last night?” “Oh, that player, he’s somethin’ else!” That kinda thing.
Let’s do a few more quick ones, rapid-fire style! Who was the MVP in… uh… I don’t remember the year, but it was that big fella, played for the Lakers, before Lebron. Shaquille O’Neal, that’s him! He was a load, wasn’t he? Like a big ol’ bear chargin’ through the forest. Nobody could stop him. And what about that little fella, played for the Bulls too, real fast? Derrick Rose, that’s his name. He was the MVP one year too, youngest fella to ever get it, I think. Shame about them injuries, though. He coulda been somethin’ special.
Alright, last one. Think you are a true NBA expert? Take one of the thousands of these addictive NBA quizzes and prove it. I ain’t no expert, like I said, just an old lady who likes watchin’ them fellas play ball. But I know enough to hold my own in a conversation, and that’s good enough for me. Now, if you wanna be an expert, you gotta do more than just answer a few questions. You gotta watch the games, read the articles, and learn all the stats and history. You gotta live and breathe basketball, like them fellas on the court. But for now, I think we done good. We answered some questions, learned a few things, and had a little fun. And that’s what it’s all about, ain’t it?
So go on out there, find yourself some more NBA quizzes, and see how much you know. And if you don’t know the answer, don’t worry ’bout it. Just look it up, and learn somethin’ new. That’s how you get smarter, and that’s how you become a true fan. And remember, basketball is just a game, but it’s a game that brings people together, makes ’em cheer, makes ’em laugh, and makes ’em feel like they’re part of somethin’ bigger than themselves. And that, my friends, is a beautiful thing. Now go find some of them NBA quizzes and prove how much you know. And don’t let no one tell you that you ain’t an expert, if you know all them answers.
