Alright, so picture this: I’m driving around Detroit, right? And I’ve got this meeting at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, but the thing is, I have absolutely no clue where to park. I’m circling the campus, feeling like I’m in some kind of parking purgatory. Street parking? Forget about it. It’s packed tighter than a can of sardines.
So, I start to get a little desperate. I’m thinking, “There’s gotta be a garage somewhere.” I see some official-looking buildings, and I figure, “Okay, maybe there’s hope.” I finally spot a sign that says “UWM Parking Finder” and I’m like, “Hallelujah!” Turns out, it’s this thing powered by Modii, whatever that is. But hey, it points me to a garage! The Northwest Quadrant or NWQ , Pavilion, I saw on the map. Relieved!
I drive towards the garage, and the entrance is kind of hidden, but I manage to find it. It was easier than I thought, I used the UWM Parking Finder, that thing really saved me.
I pull in and I see it is a paid parking. I’m thinking, “Okay, how much is this going to set me back?” Turns out, they have this “pay-by-phone” thing in a bunch of lots and garages. Over 20, apparently. They use something called ParkMobile, and each lot has its own code. I found the lot codes online, pretty convenient, I gotta say. I also saw this map of a place called 128 W Fisher Service Dr, and it showed all the parking lots and street parking rates. That website was a little confusing.
Anyway, I use the app, put in how long I need to park, and it tells me the total. Not too bad, considering the hassle I just avoided. I mean, who wants to spend hours looking for parking? Not me! I also found this website that showed me the nearest parking to my building and even a map of the main campus. That was super helpful. It was not easy to find free parking.
So, I park my car, grab my stuff, and head to my meeting. Crisis averted! I later check another website that said that there’s basically no free parking on the UWM main campus. Makes sense, I guess. It also said that if you have parking issues, you can call this number (414) 229-4000, or press the help button in the garage. Good to know! So, finding the entrance of UWM parking garage is not easy if you are the first time to be there. But the UWM Parking Finder is really helpful, I think it could avoid most of trouble.
My takeaways from this whole ordeal:
- First time to find the entrance, really need to be patient.
- That UWM Parking Finder thing is a lifesaver. Download it if you’re ever in the area.
- Pay-by-phone is the way to go. No more fumbling for change.
- There are some websites that can help you figure out the parking situation before you even get there.
- Don’t expect free parking, just be prepared to pay.
- I found the UWM parking, I am so smart!
The Bottom Line
Parking at UWM can be a pain, but it’s definitely doable if you know where to look and what to expect. Just be prepared, use the resources available, and you’ll be fine. And hey, at least I got a good story out of it, right?
