Man, you won’t believe the day I had messing around with the NYT Mini Crossword. So, I started my day like any other, grabbed my phone, and launched the NYT Games app. I saw the Mini Crossword and thought, “Why not?” I usually try to knock these out while I’m making my morning coffee.
I started filling in the blanks, and most of it went pretty smooth. I got some easy ones right off the bat, like using “Eros” for the god of love. Then I remembered some trivia about Hans Zimmer’s work and slotted in “score” for his contributions to “The Lion King” and “Dune”. Felt pretty good about those!
But then, there was this one clue: “Wait, that’s crazy!” It was only five letters, and I was totally stumped. I went through my usual routine, saying the clue out loud a few times, trying to think of synonyms or related phrases. Nothing. I even started to look around my room, hoping something would spark an idea. Nope. Still nothing.
At this point, I was seriously considering giving up. I mean, it’s just a mini crossword, right? But it bugged me. I had filled in every other word, and this one little clue was holding me back. So I did what any reasonable person would do in 2024: I turned to the internet.
I started searching, and let me tell you, the internet is a wild place for crossword answers. I found a bunch of sites dedicated to solving these things. There were forums, blogs, even dedicated websites, all with people sharing clues and answers. It was a bit overwhelming, but also kind of cool to see this whole community around crossword puzzles.
After digging around, I found a few pages mentioning the March 4th and 5th puzzle, and finally saw the answer staring back at me. I felt a mix of relief and slight annoyance that I hadn’t figured it out myself. But hey, a win’s a win, right?
- I opened the NYT Games app.
- I solved a few easy clues.
- I got stuck on “Wait, that’s crazy!”
- I searched online for answers.
- I found the solution on a crossword forum.
It was a bit more of an adventure than I expected for a quick morning crossword, but hey, that’s what makes it fun. Sometimes you get stumped, and sometimes you need a little help from the internet. Either way, I finished the puzzle, and that’s what counts.
This experience taught me a thing or two.
First, even the simplest clues can be tricky sometimes. Second, there’s a whole world of crossword solvers out there, which is pretty awesome. And third, sometimes it is okay to look up the answer if you’re really stuck. Anyway, I closed the app, feeling pretty accomplished. Another day, another crossword solved.
