Okay, so today I wanna talk about this crossword puzzle clue I saw, “top of the line Mercedes”. It got me thinking, you know?
First off, I started digging around to see when this clue even showed up. Turns out, it’s been popping up in the New York Times crossword, like, a bunch of times. I found mentions of it on January 19, 2024, and October 22nd, as far back as I could see easily.
My Investigation
- I looked up the clue online and saw a few different websites trying to give the answer.
- Most of them agreed that the answer was “SCLASS”. Made sense, right? It’s a six-letter word, and the S-Class is definitely Mercedes’ top-tier sedan.
- But then I saw one site that mentioned there might be like 40 possible answers! 40! That seemed wild to me.
So I dove a little deeper. I started checking out the actual NYT crossword puzzles from those dates.
Here’s what I found
- On the January 19th puzzle, the clue was definitely there, and “SCLASS” fit perfectly.
- I also checked the October 22nd puzzle, and yep, same clue, same answer.
Honestly, I’m not sure where that “40 possible answers” thing came from. Maybe they were counting older puzzles or something? Or maybe it was just a mistake.
Anyway, I feel pretty confident that “SCLASS” is the right answer for “top of the line Mercedes” in the NYT crossword. At least for the dates I checked.
It was a fun little research project, though. Made me appreciate how much work goes into these puzzles. And it made me realize how much I love digging into stuff like this.
If any of you guys have seen this clue on other dates or have different answers, let me know! I’m always up for a good puzzle discussion.
That’s all for now. Catch you guys later!
