Okay, so, here’s the deal. I’m a huge Tennessee Volunteers fan, right? Like, HUGE. And every week, I’m scrambling to figure out how to watch the game. It’s always a whole thing. So, I decided to do a little digging and get it all sorted out, once and for all. Now I can share my experience with all of you guys.
First things first, I needed to know when the games were even happening. So I started my process by checking out the official Tennessee Volunteers website. They usually have the schedule posted, but sometimes it takes a minute to update. And I grabbed a pen and paper, I just wrote down all the dates and times of games I could found. I’m a simple man.
Next, I had to figure out which channel was showing the games. This is where it gets tricky. Sometimes it’s on ESPN, sometimes it’s on ABC, and sometimes it’s on some other channel I’ve never even heard of. It’s a mess. So I wrote down every game time and the channels that broadcast it on my paper. Also, I noticed that Tennessee football games always start at 12 p.m. or 7 p.m. eastern time. That really helped me out.
Now, because I know that the Tennessee Volunteers are actually pretty popular, like the data shows that they have got a No.1 ranking one time, which means there must be a lot of people like me wanting to watch them playing, so I decided to do a little research on the history of the team as well. Turns out, the team was named “Volunteer” because a lot of people from Tennessee volunteered to join the military. Cool, right? And their home field, Neyland Stadium, was started back in 1919. And that Col. W.S. Shields guy was the one who kicked it all off.
Anyways, back to the games. Once I had the schedule and the channels, I started looking into different ways to actually watch. I mean, I have cable, so that covers most of the games. But sometimes I’m not at home, or sometimes the game is on a channel I don’t get. So I tried out a few things.
First, I tried the old-fashioned way. Sometimes bars or restaurants will show the games, especially if it’s a big one. I just called around to a few local spots and see if they were playing it. The last time I watched a game in a bar, I remember it was the Tennessee vs. Florida game. It was broadcast live on ESPN, which is carried on almost all major cable TV packages. So every bar had the game on. That was a good day.
Then, I looked into streaming. Now, I’m not the most tech-savvy guy, but I figured it out. There are a few different services that let you stream live sports. I won’t name names, but you can find them pretty easily. I tried a couple of them out, and they worked pretty well. You just have to make sure you have a good internet connection. The last time I tried to stream the game it was the one against Georgia. That game was on ABC. That day I used a stream service and it worked fine.
So, yeah, that’s my whole process for figuring out how to watch Tennessee football games. It’s a bit of a pain, but it’s worth it to see my Vols play. Hopefully, this helps some of you other fans out there. Go Vols!
