Okay, so I wanted to get into crosswords, you know? I always saw people doing them in movies and stuff, and it looked kinda cool. I figured, “Why not give it a shot?” So, I picked up a crossword puzzle book from the store – one of those “easy” ones, haha. Yeah, right. Turns out, even the “easy” ones aren’t a walk in the park when you’re just starting out.
I started with what I thought I knew. That’s what I read somewhere. Start with the clues you already know the answer to. The first clue was some five-letter word related to some animal. It got me to think. I stared at that darn thing for like ten minutes, I swear. Nothing.
Then I read that crossword puzzles get harder as the week goes on. Mondays are the easiest, and Saturdays are a real pain. I guess I was working on a Wednesday or Thursday level puzzle. It’s kinda like a game, where you level up, except here, it is getting more difficult.
Next, I skipped around, looking for those “fill-in-the-blank” clues. They said those are usually the easiest. And guess what? They kinda were! I managed to fill in a couple of those. I think one of them was like, “___ cat”. Come on, who doesn’t know that one? It’s “black” cat. Felt pretty good about that, not gonna lie.
So I kept at it, bouncing around the puzzle, trying to find more of those easy gimmes. I also learned that a lot of people start with the easy crossword. That makes sense, you gotta start somewhere, right?
I found out about this thing called “Daily Commute Crossword.” I tried a few of those. They’re pretty good for beginners. I think I spent a lot of time just doing these.
- Started with a so-called “easy” crossword book.
- Tried to fill in the clues I thought I knew.
- Realized that the puzzles increase in difficulty throughout the week.
- Focused on the fill-in-the-blank clues, which were easier.
- Discovered the “Daily Commute Crossword” and found it helpful for beginners.
Anyway, after a few days, I could feel myself getting a little bit better. I still wasn’t solving the whole thing, but I was getting more words filled in. It’s a slow process, but I’m kinda hooked now. It’s like a little mental workout, you know? Keeps the brain busy. I’m not giving up yet. I’m gonna keep practicing and see how far I can go. Maybe one day I’ll be able to tackle those Saturday puzzles. Who knows?
